When did Meghan Markle give birth?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's first child was born on May 6.

The Duchess of Sussex was more than a week overdue at the time.

She went into labour in the early hours of May 6 and just a few hours later gave birth to a baby boy weighing 7lbs 3oz at 5.26am.

Prince Harry spoke out following the safe arrival of his son.

He said: "I'm very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy this morning, a very healthy baby boy. I'm so incredibly proud of my wife."

Their child will be seventh in line to the throne but it won't have the prince or princess title because of a rule created in 1917.

Descendants of Prince Harry are too far removed from Queen Elizabeth to have the Royal Highness title, so they are most likely to use the Royal Family's personal surname Mountbatten-Windsor.

How was Prince Harry's first child announced?

Kensington Palace announced Meghan was pregnant on its .

The message read: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the spring of 2019.

"Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public."

Fast-forward to May 2019, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have their own Instagram which they used to announced the arrival of their son.

In a touching post, the couple wrote: "We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz."

What type of birth did Meghan Markle have?

It was reported that Meghan was considering giving birth at home in Windsor, but this plan did not come into fruition.

Meghan went into labour late on Sunday night and gave birth at London's Portland Hospital at 5.26am on Monday.

Prince Harry was by her side at the time of the birth.

Meghan and Harry had been preparing for a home birth at Frogmore Cottage in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Archie's birth certificate confirmed that he had been born at hospital after all.

Late on Sunday the Duchess was driven to the exclusive Portland private hospital in central London by Harry and their Scotland Yard security team.

Meghan remained in the £15,000-a-night hospital overnight before going into labour in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Duchess, 37, would have been following the Queen's example if she opted for a home birth, as the monarch had all her four kids at either Buckingham Palace or Clarence House.

Mum-to-be Meghan’s first choice was to have her baby at Frogmore Cottage, the new home she shares with Prince Harry, sources claimed.

When asked whether Meghan wants to have a home birth, one friend told: “It is her favoured choice.

“But it obviously depends on how things are nearer the time.”

Was Meghan Markle pregnant with twins?

No - Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have had one baby boy.

Some royal watchers were convinced that Meghan Markle is pregnant with twins- however this wasn't true.

In November Paddy Power suspended bets on the chances of a double royal arrival after an abnormal number of wagers were placed on the royal couple welcoming two babies.

During Meghan's pregnancy, many fans commented on the size of Meghan's bump.

One tweeted: "That Meghan Markle is having twins I swear #giantbump," while another wrote: "I’m just gonna say it right now: Meghan Markle is going to have twins, one boy and one girl."

Due to Meghan's age (37) she was more likely to have twins - or even triplets - than a woman still in her twenties.

However, this was not the case.
