END OF THE GENDER LAY GAP

The results are in from The Sun’s great sex survey — and women are on top

For 70 years the official line was men are more bonkers about bonking than women but we found there's no gender difference between sex drives or cheating

FOR 70 years the official line was men are more bonkers about bonking than women.

It’s all thanks to the famous Kinsey Report into human sexual behaviour, which concluded that men are more highly charged.

Many have long considered his carnal knowledge was faulty. And today our Sun sex survey turns Kinsey’s outdated findings on their, ahem, head.

We got One Poll to survey 2,000 men and women aged 18 plus about their sexual habits and histories.

We found NO gender difference between sex drives or cheating. In fact, MORE women than men use sex toys (49 per cent to 41 per cent), while women are sexually active at a younger age — 31 per cent lost their virginity at 16 compared to 25 per cent.

No doubt our findings would shock American biologist Alfred Kinsey. His groundbreaking research was detailed in his bestsellers Sexual Behavior In The Human Male (1948) and Sexual Behavior In The Human Female (1953) later turned into the Kinsey Report.

He looked at then taboo subjects such as homosexuality and the wilder things men and women got up to between the sheets. His revelations caused outrage in a buttoned-up American society.

Kinsey found that 90 per cent of American males pleasured themselves while 85 per cent had sex before marriage — and concluded from this that men were the more sexually active gender.

But our sex survey shows the gender lay gap is closing.

Sexpert Annabelle Knight says: “While there is still a gap in sexual satisfaction between men and women there has definitely been some progress since the initial report made by Kinsey.

“More women are using sex toys, whether alone or with a partner, and making their sexual satisfaction paramount.

“Fantasy and role-play is now part and parcel of the sexual experience as much for women as for men. Women want more adventurous sex and are willing to try more methods to help them reach orgasm.

“Interestingly, women are just as likely to be unfaithful as men.  Perhaps that’s not a fact we should be so proud of — but at least it shows that women are no longer afraid to act on their sexual needs.”

Barmaid Hannah Cheetham, 25, a mum-of-two from Staffs, says: “I use sex toys five times a week and own about 15. They allow you to experiment when you’re feeling too shy to ask your partner, or when you have a long shift at work and you want to liven it up.

“There’s lots of discreet toys like jiggle balls that you can use to make things more exciting.”

Sex vs social media

Promotions worker Emmerald Barwise, 27, from Manchester, says: “I work long hours, so for the past year I haven’t been bothered to meet someone for sex.

“I go on social media instead for a flirt. I can still send naughty messages and I get the same buzz without having rubbish sex with a stranger.”

Luis Galdeano, 27, doesn't believe 'honesty is the best policy' in relationshipsCredit: Matthew Pover/Matthew Pover Limited.

PA Luis Galdeano, 27, from Bury, says: “I have been in one serious relationship and I cheated on her because I knew she wouldn’t find out. We did break up in the end but not because she found out about my antics. I really don’t think honesty is the best policy – what you don’t know can’t hurt you.”

The big o-no

Shop manager Becky Yates, 25, from Preston, says: “Apparently an orgasm is some kind of amazing sensation – not that I’d know! The most I’ve felt is a light tingle, that’s it. Have I climaxed and it’s not all it’s cracked up to be?
