The surprising impact Meghan Markle has had on SUPERDRUG – with the shop reporting a spike in sales of a very specific item
The Meghan Effect is still going strong
MEGHAN’S Markle’s outfits fly off the shelves with some popular pieces quickly selling out.
The Duchess of Sussex’s royal wardrobe has been inspiring women all over the world to try and copy her classy look.
Dubbed the Meghan Effect, it's seen make-up and beauty products rise in popularity along with her fashion choices.
Her signature look is sweeping her dark hair back into a bun, with a smoky eye, rosy cheeks and a touch of colour on her lips.
Undoubtedly her trademark is her freckles, which are the stars of her natural look.
Inspired by Meghan’s wedding make-up, where she championed her natural glow, it was reported more women were showing off their own freckles.
And for those who didn't have freckles, a trend quickly emerged which saw people adding them on using eyebrow pencils.
Numerous tutorials have popped up to help women recreate those iconic freckles, including from InTheFrow.
But it hasn’t stopped here, with the referencing Superdrug's surge in products copying all aspects of Meghan's style.
As royals are forbidden to wear bold nail varnish colours, the 37-year-old has had to make room for a new favourite shade.
- Essie Nail Colour 6 Ballet Slippers, Superdrug, £7.99 –
It seems the winner is nude tone Essie Ballet Slippers, with Meghan spotted wearing the shade in her engagement photos and on her wedding day.
As a result the colour – which the Queen is also said to be a fan of – has seen a 57 per cent rise in sales when compared to ‘pre-Meghan’, Superdrug said.
And shunning the cakey make-up look of some stars, Meghan’s minimal application is also thought to be behind the rise in popularity of concealer.
- MUA Hide & Conceal Stick, Superdrug, £1 -
Superdrug revealed it’s now the most popular base product, and has seen a 36 per cent increase in sales when compared to last year.
Superdrug has crowned Meghan the ‘number one beauty icon’, due to her easy-to-recreate look.
Sarah Gardner, Superdrug Head of Beauty, said: “Meghan Markle is known for her effortless and minimalist makeup look which is driving sales of concealers, nail polish and even brow pencils.
- e.l.f. Instant Lift Brow Pencil, Superdrug, £3 –
“The Duchess of Sussex portrays a more attainable and natural beauty which is causing our customers nationwide to snap up these beauty items to replicate her look.
“For the first time concealers are outperforming beauty staple foundations proving that Brits are opting for a more understated look in comparison to the heavily contoured looks sported by the biggest reality stars on social media.”
