A WOMAN'S rant has gone viral after revealing a fellow passenger on her train left her a note instructing her to smile.
Jane told BBC The Social how the man sitting across from her kept “glancing up” at her before leaving the bizarre message as he got off the train.
The video has racked up 636k views
The note said: “You should smile even if the world’s getting you down, a face as pretty as yours was not made to frown.”
Jane said the comment made her feel “vulnerable” and that she didn’t take the man’s message as a compliment.
She said: “I noticed there was a guy sitting opposite me who was glancing up at me. He got off the train a few stops before I did and when I looked up I noticed that he’d left a note on the table for me."
She continued: “On the front it says ‘count to ten and then open.’
“I feel like on some level he did know what he was doing was a bit strange because he wrote ‘can you wait ten seconds before opening’ so it was like he didn’t want to be around to see what my reaction was to his note.”
Jane went on to hit back at people who accused her of overreacting to the message.
She explained: “Some people think that this guy was just trying to be nice to me but there are so many ways he could’ve expressed concern for me rather than handing me a note telling me what I should do with my face, then running off the train before I could even respond.
“When you look at this incident in isolation you might think that I’m overreacting a little bit, you might even think that I should’ve taken this as a compliment but actually that’s missing the cumulative effect that incidents like this have on women every day.
She added: “Many women do feel vulnerable when people comment on their appearance, especially in public.

“If you’re not sure how an action you’re about to take is going to be perceived by someone else then just be cautious and just don’t do it!”
Public opinion of the story has been divided, and the video has already racked up over 3,500 comments.
And many Facebook users have taken to the social media site to sympathise with the man who left the note.
One user commented: “Had it been a woman that gave her the note, it’d be all ‘great well done, women empowering each other and uplifting each other.’
“He gave her a compliment without expecting anything in return.”
