TV viewers are hooked on Killing Eve, and were baffled after star Jodie Comer revealed her real accent on This Morning.
The 25-year-old actress may put on a number of convincing accents in the show – including Russian and American – but Jodie actually has a thick Liverpudlian twang in real life.
Dr Foster fans may also remember Jodie playing the role of well-spoken 20-something Kate Parks from the home counties, who had an affair with the heroine’s husband.
In both shows, Jodie has concealed her real accent, and fans were shocked when she appeared on the popular breakfast show to promote Killing Eve.
Many viewers praised the talented star’s “versatility” and couldn’t believe her impressive accent skills.
One viewer gushed on Twitter: “Everything I’ve seen Jodie Comer in - My Mad Fat Diary, Doctor Foster, Thirteen, Killing Eve. She’s had a different accent, and in real life she has NONE OF THOSE ACCENTS because she is a SCOUSER and i'm EVEN MORE OBSESSED, a versatile queen!"
Another added: “Just heard jodie comer’s real accent (she’s a scouser) and now I love her even more.”
And one person wrote: “Killing Eve is fab. @jodiecomer is amazing in it. She will be so huge after this. Can’t believe her real life scouse accent.”
Jodie told : “I live in Liverpool, still at home with my mum and dad. I get the best of both worlds. I’m here now for six months [filming in London], but as soon as that six months is over, there’s nowhere else I want to go other than home ... I just love Liverpool. I love London, but I like to leave.”
In the hit BBC crime drama, Jodie plays the role of Villanelle, a fearsome assassin clinging to the luxuries her violent job affords her.
Meanwhile Eve, played by Grey's Anatomy’s Sandra Oh, is a bored MI5 security officer whose desk job does not fulfil her fantasies of being a spy until she gets the job of tracking down Villanelle.
The eight-part series, which started on September 15, sees a Russian diplomat's assassination trigger a frantic European-wide search for Villanelle with thrills and spills around every corner.
The two women are thrown into a cat-and-mouse game that turns the traditional spy-thriller on its head.
Jodie is also known for her roles as Chloe Gemell on the comedy-drama series My Mad Fat Diary and Ivy Moxam in the BBC Three's Thirteen.
Meanwhile, has Meghan Markle had elocution lessons? A royal correspondent has given their verdict on her accent.
And Britney Spears put on an English accent as she wowed London crowds with sexy performance during Piece of Me tour.
English accents have been ranked in order of ‘sexiness’… so how hot is YOUR voice?
