IT’S not easy being in the public eye, and Serena Williams has admitted that she and longtime pal Meghan Markle “have been relying on each other”.
The tennis ace, 36, has revealed she was in touch with the Duchess of Sussex, 37, following her US Open outburst earlier this month.
Speaking to Australian news program The Sunday Project about Meghan, three days after her antics caused controversy, Serena said: “We were actually just texting each other this morning.
“We have known each other for a long time, but we really kind of are relying on each other a lot recently.”
Serena and her husband Alexis Ohania were among the chosen guests at Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry in May, and the athlete spoke of the special day in the interview.
She said: “To have such a monumental moment in England, nonetheless of all the places, I felt like we were literally watching history. I feel like in a few years we are going to look back at that moment and it's going to be so historic. It's going to be something that people never forget.
The 36-year-old broke her racket in fury during the US Open final“The whole service was really wonderful, and most of all I just wanted to see my friend be happy. And I think that's what happened.”

The Duchess went to Wimbledon this year to watch Serena play in the Women’s Single Final, where she lost in straight sets to Angelique Kerber.
Serena spoke in the interview about her on-court outburst and alleged signals from the sidelines from coach Patrick Mouratoglou.
Serena said: “I just don't understand what he (Patrick) was talking about... We don't have signals, we've never have signals. He said he made a motion, so I was like, 'Okay, you made a motion and now you're telling people you were coaching me? That doesn't make sense, why would you say that?”
When interviewer Lisa Wilkinson queried about Serena smashing her racket, the tennis star declined to answer.
Her publicist stepped in and said: “Sorry, that's four question about the US Open, so can you change topics?”
Serena was fined more than £13,000 after receiving three code violations during the US Open final.
Williams launched a tirade of abuse at umpire Carlos Ramos, after previously getting a warning for coaching from the stands early in the second set - receiving a fine of over £3,000.
Worse was to follow for Williams, after she was penalised a second point for throwing her racket down in her anger (£2,322).
A game was then deducted from her after she verbally abused Ramos calling him a "liar" and a "thief" (£7,739).
A source has claimed Meghan Markle has ‘lost touch’ with several close friends since engagement to Prince Harry as she’s struggling ‘to know who to trust’.
