What is the Priory?

The Priory, Roehampton, was built in 1811 as a private home and turned into a hospital in 1872. It is London's oldest private psychiatric hospital.

The Priory Group, which owns the famous Roehampton clinic, has 42 hospitals and teaching schools in the UK.

It also runs specialist centres for children with autism and other mental health issues.

Many celebrities have taken up residency in the hospital to treat gambling, sex, drugs, alcohol and computing addictions.

Who are its celebrity guests?

Celebrity guests at The Priory have included Ant McPartlin, Lily Allen, Paul Gascoigne, Kate Moss, Sinead O’Connor and Amy Winehouse.

Gail Porter famously slammed the clinic after being treated there in 2005.

She claimed she was compared to a car because her "engine wasn't working properly".

Why did Katie Price check into the rehab centre?

The former glamour model has checked into the £5,000-a-week rehab facility for 28 days.

Her family urged her to get help following drink and drug binges.

After a consultation at the clinic, she was diagnosed with co-morbid post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

How much does it cost?

The Priory can treat up to 90 patients at a time at a cost of around £5,000 a week, depending on what therapy is needed.

Around 2,500 people a year will check in, with around 70 per cent referred by the NHS.

The Priory focuses on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which is a type of talking therapy aiming to help people manage their problems by changing the way they think.

However, last year a watchdog warned it was failing to keep its patients safe -  it was given a grade of "requires improvement" by the Care Quality Commission.

Inspectors found a shortage of nurses and a number of fixtures and fittings that suicidal patients could use to hang themselves.

There were also blind spots within the Grade II-listed building, where staff were unable to properly observe patients.
