Zig-zag waves are making a comeback and will give you a seriously nostalgic feel if you were an 80’s or Noughties teen

Whether you were an ‘80s or a Noughties teen, crimped hair will always have a nostalgic feel.

And while you may have thought the trend would remain in the past, the zig-zag waves are making a comeback.

“Bring the look up to date by only crimping some of your hair,” advises GHD global ambassador Adam Reed.

“Experiment with different sections for a dual-texture effect, or to contour your face. Choose the exact areas that need height or definition and crimp underneath to give them volume.”

While you may rock a neon lip in the hotter months, winter may be the perfect time

While we love rocking neon during summer, it’s never quite felt winter-apprope… until now.

Urban Decay make-up artist Danielle Roberts says these hot hues can be carried through to the colder months by blurring brighter colours into your lips instead of going for a full-on bold pout.

“Try blending a mousse formula from the inside of your lip outward towards your lip line,” says Danielle. “Then feather the colour into the lip line with a small sponge applicator.”

Peachy-pink blushes are making a return after months of bronzer being trendy

After months of bronzer, blush is back. But if you’re still shying away from peachy-pink tones, take a few tips from Bobbi Brown pro artist Adeola Gboyega.

“The key is to blend your blusher sufficiently, avoiding harsh lines or edges,” she says.

“Never apply in a circular motion – instead sweep it outwards from the apple of your cheek toward your hairline for a soft-focus effect.”

Buns of steel

Ditch tired ponytails and topknots and get creative by crossing it with a bun

Sick of the same old ponytails and topknots? Take inspo from the A/W ’18 runways and get creative.

For an easy everyday look, VO5 hair ambassador Paul Donovan explains the new way to work a pony – and it’s all about crossing it with a bun.

“Blow-dry hair to get a sleek finish before making a regular ponytail at the middle point of your head with an elastic – but only pull your hair part way through to create a loop,” says Paul.

“Then take a small section of hair and wrap it around the elastic to conceal it, securing with a pin. Finish off with some shine mist. To shake things up, play around with partings, or even lower your ponytail to the nape of your neck for a more sophisticated look.”

Ditch your traditional nude eye make-up for a denim-toned blue for a 90s-inspired hues

If you’re over your go-to nude eye and want something a little bolder to brighten up the drearier months, look no further than the cool cobalt that was popping up all over the place during A/W fashion weeks.

“It’s about denim-toned blue rather than the ‘90s-inspired frosty hue,” says Adeola.

“Go for a matte navy for a more modern and wearable approach.” But there are no rules – whether it’s with liner or shadow, how you wear it is up to you.

Introduce leopard spots into your look but if you’re feeling shy, start off with the trend on your nails

Leopard spots are everywhere, but if you’re nervous about wearing the fearsome print, let your nails be your introduction. This design is intricate-looking but foolproof.

“The more abstract the shapes, the better – you can’t really mess up,” says OPI nail expert Jenni Draper.

“Apply a base coat then use a small brush or dotting tool to make splodges.”

Finish the look by adding a shiny top coat.
