Zara bravely carried out the interview on the same day her new daughter, Lena, was seen in public for the first time.

She joined the rest of her family, including big sister, Mia, to watch her mum compete in some horse trials.

The 37-year-old, whose oldest daughter Mia was born in 2014, had her first miscarriage in 2016.

In her first televised interview about the couple's devastating loss, the former Olympian described it as a "horrible road".

Speaking on BBC Breakfast today, the Queen's granddaughter said: "It's very different for us because we're carrying the child, but for guys I guess it's kind of that helpless feeling, which must be incredibly high and horrible for them.

"At the end of the day they've still lost a child too."

What is a miscarriage

Zara Tnidall has bravely spoken about her two miscarriages

  • A miscarriage is when a pregnancy is lost during the first 23 weeks.
  • The main symptom is bleeding, which can be followed by cramping and pain in the lower abdomen.
  • There are many reasons why miscarriages occur and most are not caused by something the mother has done.
  • Most are believed to be caused by abnormal chromosomes in the baby, which means it doesn't develop properly.
  • The majority of miscarriages cannot be prevented, but not smoking, drinking or using drugs while pregnant can reduce the risk.
  • Being a health weight, having a healthy diet and reducing risk of infection can also help.
  • If you think you're having a miscarriage, always visit a medical professional.

"At the time, Pete was again very much the protective brother; he was very concerned about me, as was Mike. Everyone was.

"It was a time when my family came to the fore and I needed them.

"I had to go through having the baby because it was so far along. I then had another miscarriage really early on.

"You need to go through a period where you don't talk about it because it's too raw but, as with everything, time's a great healer."

Zara also revealed the royal couple had received many letters of support from the public.

She said: "I had some many letters saying 'I'm so sorry, we've been through the same thing', which was incredible - and thank you to all those people."

Lena also made her first public appearance today.

The youngster, along with big sister, Mia, joined the rest of her family at a horse trials.

The tot was tucked into a blue babygrow as proud Mia watched her mum compete at The Whately Manor International Horse Trials at Gatcombe Park, the come of her gran's Gloucestershire home.
