Meghan Markle’s style icon is revealed as Angelina Jolie… and here are all the looks she stole from the A-list star
The two women have remarkably similar wardrobes
MEGHAN Markle’s style has evolved considerably ever since she became a royal.
She’s gone from the LA actress in short skirts and plunging dresses, to the chic and sophisticated look of British royalty.
But a fashion expert has revealed where Meghan is taking her fashion inspiration from – and it’s more Hollywood than regal.
A-lister Angelina Jolie has been revealed as the unlikely source of the Duchess’ wardrobe choices.
Throwback photos reveal the 37-year-old has been copying some of Angelina’s key red carpet looks over the years.
Fashion stylist Alex Longmore explained the similarities between the women’s style on her .
She said: “Meghan’s style muse is most definitely Angelina Jolie.
“The similarities are endless. The outfit choices dating way back in Meghan’s wardrobe are practically doppelgängers of Angelina’s.
“Often when I ask my clients whose style they like in the public eye, Angelina is often up there with the best of them but I suspect its more than this with Meghan.
“I think its what Angelina represents as a woman that Meghan is wanting to emulate.
“Angelina is taken seriously as an actress, is a humanitarian and is exceedingly well respected.”
The Dress
In a surprising move the Queen and Meghan embarked on their first solo engagement less than a month after she married Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Sussex even got to ride the royal train – a rare honour.
All eyes were on Meghan’s outfit as she stepped off the locomotive, and she stunned in another Givenchy creation.
But a few years earlier, the mum-of-six wore a nearly identical white gown to the premiere of Unbroken in 2014.
Both dresses feature than same neckline and cape-like detail across the shoulders, as well as a similar hem length.
The Suit
On the royal couple’s first overseas trip to Ireland, Meghan wore a diplomatic green as she stepped off the plane.
And showing she wasn’t confined to shin-skimming dresses, she opted for a tailored suit.
Meghan donned another Givenchy creation, wearing a bespoke fitted black suit with a white t-shirt.
And she finished the look with black heels.
But her outfit is nearly identical to one Angelina wore to the British Academy Film Awards in 2014.
The actress-turned-director wore a jacket with similar three-quarter length sleeves over a white shirt.
And she too wore black heels paired with the cigarette trousers.
The Coat
The first official photshoot of Harry and Meghan as a couple was when they announced their engagement to the world.
Posing in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace, Harry wore a blue suit while Meghan opted for an oversized belted white coat, by Canadian brand Line the Label.
But it’s not the first time we’ve seen a similar coat, with Ange rocking the look out and about in New York in 2011.
She wore a similar coat which featured a nearly identical belt detail - and both women had the coat firmly done up.
The Boat Neck
Meghan has been credited with bringing back the boat neck, or bateau neckline, after stepping out in several dresses with the distinctive look.
Her wedding dress featured the neckline, and it’s said to be Meghan’s signature look.
But Angelina was wearing the bateau before Meghan’s big day, with the Academy Award winner wearing the distinctive boat neck while at NATO headquarters in January this year.
The Wide Leg Trousers
With Meghan occasionally slipping into a more casual look, she worked the wide leg trouser look while on a trip to Scotland.
Dressed head to toe in black, she was covered up with a turtle neck and wide leg trousers which featured button detailing.
But again, we’ve seen this look before.
Angelina wore her own all black ensemble with wide-legged trousers – complete with a jacket – to the screening of In The Land Of Blood And Honey in 2011.
The Sensible Skirt
Now Meghan’s a member of the royal family out are the risqué hemlines she once wore.
Nowadays the Duchess wears dresses and skirts which come down to her knees, or further.
And she’s following in the footsteps of Angelina here too, who has mastered the art of demure and tactful dressing.
Looking radiant in a tasteful two-piece, Angelina wore a matching knee-length skirt and jacket, finished with a beige top, matching heels and shades.
For Meghan’s first official engagement with her then-fiancé Prince Harry, she took a leaf straight out of Angelina’s wardrobe.
She too wore a long neutral coloured skirt, teamed with matching colour coordinated top and shoes.
The V-neck Blue Dress
Despite not revealing any cleavage, Meghan’s V-neck blue dress was a deviation from the high-necked or bateau necklines she favours of late.
It could be that because she was not on an official engagement, rather the Sentebale Polo Cup at the Royal Berkshire Polo Club, she felt she could let her hair down a little.
She wore a Caroline Herrera dress in navy, which was belted at the waist.
And again, Angelina has something similar in her closet.
In 2010 she wore a dark blue dress with a similar neckline to promote her film, Salt.
The Beige Coat
Both Meghan and Ange are fans of a long, beige coat it seems.
Last year, for her first Christmas at Sandrigham, Meghan stepped out in a long camel coat, by Sentaler.
In 2010, Angelina was spied in a similar neutral coat – also with a long hemline.
Not just a similar coat, but Meghan also paired her with some brown boots.
The Sparkly Dress
But it seems long before Meghan became a Duchess, she was pinching Angelina’s looks.
These two sparkly dresses – which Meghan wore to A 'Suits' Story Fashion Show in 2012 – shows she’s been copying Angelina’s look for years.
Angelina wore a similar number to the LA premiere of Salt just two years before.
The Strapless Dress
Both women love to wear black, especially to public events.
In 2016 Meghan wore a floor-length strapless black number to the Luminato Big Bang Bash.
Just a year before, Angelina wore a similar black, floor-length strapless dress to the WSJ Innovator of the Year Awards.
Although Meghan did accessorise her outfit with a necklace.
