FANCY living at Buckingham Palace? Your chance may have just arrived!
The Queen is hiring for a role in the royal kitchens – so if you know your scones from your scallops, this could be the job for you.
Buckingham Palace posted a vacancy for a new kitchen porter this week, stating how they are looking for someone who can bring “outstanding” service to the catering team.
If you are keen to prepare Her Majesty’s snacks, the job comes with an annual salary of £19,935.80, a pension scheme, 33 holiday days a year including bank holidays and all your meals provided.
And the best part is you can even live in Buckingham Palace too!
Another perk is you don’t even need to have worked in catering before, as on-the-job training will be provided.
The advert, posted on the website, says: “It's working as a team to achieve exceptional results.
“It's having a shared and unique purpose, joining a professional team who deliver extraordinary service. This is what makes working for the Royal Household so different.”
Tasks will involve preparing and serving food to a high standard, and helping chefs in delivering meals throughout the day.
The ideal candidate will take “care and pride in your work, and so aim to deliver great results in all that you do”.
They will also have a good understanding of food hygiene and safety, but that isn’t essential.
Meanwhile, a former royal chef has revealed exactly what it is like to work in the kitchens at Buckingham Palace, and the type of foods the Queen wishes to avoid.
According chef Darren McGrady, Her Maj has a strict “no starch” rule when dining at home.
The Queen also avoids garlic and her chefs are told to keep it from her food – probably wise when you spend your days meeting and greeting strangers.
Darren said: “We can never serve anything with garlic or too much onions.
“We also couldn't serve meat that was rare, as she liked her meat more well done.”

Darren, who cooked for the Queen for 15 years, revealed: “The Chocolate Biscuit Cake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again every day until it's all gone.
“She'll take a small slice every day until eventually there is only one tiny piece, but you have to send that up, she wants to finish the whole of that cake."
