From breastfeeding to gender stereotypes these mums reveal why they’ve been shamed as parents
Some people have very strong opinions on how to bring up children
WOMEN are judged for their parenting skills by friends, family and even complete strangers.
While certain things are universally frowned upon, other aspects are down to personal choice.
Despite each family being different, some mothers have shared why they’ve been ‘mum shamed’.
From diet to lifestyle choices, people feel the need to air their opinion on all forms of parenting.
Mums shared their stories on , revealing all the reasons they'd been criticised.
One woman said: “I once got ‘mommy shamed’ for not having cookies in the house for my kids at the time?”
Another food-based criticism, one mum wrote: “I get so much abuse for raising my daughter vegan.”
Not just specialist diets, everyday foods were also questioned.
This parent said: “A friend of mine basically told me I’m a bad mother because I left my child have a small soda.”
And breastfeeding was a major source of friction, from too much to too little.
This mum shared: “Being mommy shamed for giving my baby formula pushes the knife in a bit deeper.
“I tried everything to breastfeed her. I just don’t produce enough milk.”
This parent had a similar problem, saying: “I have twins and I’m a medical resident. I formula feed, It’s honestly the best.
“I never made enough to feed one of my twins.”
Whereas this mum had the opposite problem.
She said: “I was shamed for breastfeeding my daughter.
“Had some idiot say I was only doing it because I was too cheap for formula.”
This mum had a similar problem, revealing: “Got mommy shamed because I’m still breastfeeding my two-and-a-half year old daughter.”
In the world of gender reveal parties, it seems that too was frowned upon.
One mum said: “I was mommy shamed for saying I want to wait until the birth to find out the sex of the baby.”
On the subject of gender, it was somehow controversial for this parent.
She revealed: “My mother-in-law tries to shame me all the time for letting my two-year-old daughter play with cars and toy tool kits.
“My daughter loves them so she plays with them.
“Everything I do is wrong in her eyes.”
Another gender-based jibe, this mum said: “I was shamed by [my] sister-in-law for allowing my four-year-old to watch Shark Week.
“Not my fault your boys are scared and my daughter is not.”
