Was Meghan’s polo outfit a hidden nod to Princess Diana on her birthday? Here’s the evidence

Meghan's choice of outfit on what would have been Diana's 57th birthday bares this resemblance to one worn by the late princess

MEGHAN Markle stepped out yesterday in an outfit that could have been a touching nod to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana on what would have been her 57th birthday.

The Duchess looked chic yet low-key in black, cropped skinny jeans as she and Prince Harry visited Berkshire's Coworth Park Polo Club.

Her choice of outfit was reminiscent of a look sported by the Princess at the polo 30 years earlier, when she accompanied her two young sons to cheer on Prince Charles.

Both style icons were pictured dressed down in skinny jeans as they enjoyed a day out watching their husbands indulge in their favourite outdoor pursuit.

Despite the soaring temperatures, Meghan plumped for a pair of black skinny jeans she paired with an oversized white shirt, black pumps and a £47 panama hat from Madewell.

While on a much cooler spring day in May 1988, Diana also looked every inch the all-American girl in tight blue jeans tucked into tan cowboy boots, a sweatshirt emblazoned with the British Lung Foundation logo, black blazer and baseball cap.

Princess Diana had taken both her young sons to cheer on Prince CharlesCommenting on Meghan's latest choice of monochrome outfit, celebrity stylist and fashion expert Alex Longmore, told The Sun: "I loved Meghan's return to her off-duty, urban-chic style for her second day in a row at the polo."

"By wearing monochrome, the Duchess subtly shows off her natural beauty, hair and figure without making a fuss."

The stylist, whose clients include Little Mix and Emma Bunton, added: "On what would have been Diana's birthday, I can imagine Meghan wanting to be understated and not trying to vye for attention."

"I'm sure the thing she would have wanted was to be compared to Julia Roberts' Pretty Woman outing at the polo."

A day earlier, Meghan was photographed wearing a pretty sundress to cheer on Prince Harry as he took part in a match at the polo club.

The Duchess looked radiant - and much cooler - in a cream sleeveless shirt dress with flat tan sandals and the same Panama hat.

While her husband was hard at work on the pitch, Meghan was accompanied by her close friend and tennis superstar Serena Williams and her family.

Serena was also dressed down, wearing a black and while bomber jacket over a fitted black dress.

The professional athlete was said to have rescheduled a press conference to kick off this year's Wimbledon championship to attend the polo with her husband Alexis Ohanian and their daughter.
