‘I’m happily married but I masturbate every night, here’s why you should too’
Mum Louise is a finance manager in local government, and insists her sex life with her hubby of 5 years is 'good'
IT'S a Monday night and Louise is ready to drift off to sleep, but not until she's completed her nightly ritual.
Despite being happily married, Louise admits to always "tucking herself" in at night - to help her switch off from the day and completely relax.
This is not something she discusses openly.
For while it's often assumed that men masturbate frequently, women generally keep quite about their solo sex lives.
Part of the reason is because women report masturbating less often than guys.
A 2009 survey of Sexual Health and Behaviour (NSSHB) from Indiana University found only 3 per cent of women masturbated more than four times a week.
Those stats put Louise firmly in the minority, but she’s unapologetic.
“It’s kind of a habit, a good one at that,” she told Whimn.
And it's a habit more women should take up, according to the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education.
By day, Louise is a finance manager in local government.
It's a stressful job, in a responsible position with constant deadlines and senior staff reporting to her.
“I enjoy a busy social life and I’ve got a teenage daughter so there’s lots going on out of work too,” she said.
“Those last minutes of the day are mine. All mine where I just get to please myself.”
Where some women reach for the wine bottle to relieve stress, Louise’s happy hour has absolutely no hangover but plenty afterglow.
And where's Louise's husband when all this is going on?
“He’s next to me asleep or watching s*** on his iPad and he either hasn’t noticed or chooses to ignore me,” Louise said.
The couple are approaching their fifth wedding anniversary, and Louise reckons “things are good in the bedroom”.
So why go it alone at night? Louise is adamant that masturbating is totally different to sex.
“With intercourse there’s more going on”, she said.
“Kissing, touching, getting all sweaty. Sometimes I am too tired for ‘jiggy jiggy’ and just need to please myself.
“I need to do it a few times a night if I’m stressed and keep waking up. I don’t have the energy for all that intimacy. I just need to ‘get off’ so I can get back to sleep.
“Having a fiddle of an evening means I’m helping myself.
“I’m not off looking for it elsewhere so no one gets hurt. Most importantly I’m satisfied for the night.”
