If this happens, Kate Middleton will become Princess of Wales, the title last held by her husband’s mum, Princess Diana - while Wills will become Prince of Wales.

If she wishes, Kate can use the name as a sweet tribute to the mother-in-law that she never got to meet.

Currently Charles is the Prince of Wales, and technically Camilla Parker Bowles holds the Princess title, but she doesn’t use it due to the association it has to Princess Diana, who died in 1997.

Instead, Camilla uses the Duchess of Cornwall title, which is female version of Charles’ highest-ranking subsidiary title.

Traditionally the Prince of Wales title is handed to the heir to the throne, and Charles is the 21st person to hold it.

Diana became the Princess of Wales after she married Charles in 1981.

It is unlikely that Prince Harry will receive a new title after the death of his grandma, as he is a lot further down the line of succession.

He is currently behind Prince William’s kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
