'He's amazing'

Why I turned to a White Van sperm donor I’d never met to have my five-week-old daughter

Charlotte and her girlfriend were desperate for a baby...so she went to the man travelling the country and pleasuring himself in the back of his van

A mum has spoken about being impregnated by the White Van sperm donor - who travels around the country inseminating women after pleasuring himself in the back seat of his van.

As revealed in The Sun, former maths teacher Clive parks outside would-be mum's homes, performs into a pot and then passes over the contents.

The women then inject themselves with the still-warm fluid using a syringe.

Shockingly, as a result of his actions, Clive is now dad to 66 children, with 14 more on the way.

He's vowed not to give up until he's had 100 babies... and says he just wants to make women happy.

Two women who benefited from his service are Charlotte, 25, and her lesbian partner Amy, 32, from Staffordshire.

After becoming a couple three years ago they were eager to become parents.

They learnt about sperm donors from a pal and discovered Clive, who isn't paid for his services, on Facebook.

After speaking to him via the social network, they chatted to him on the phone and in July he pulled up outside their home.

Unfortunately, on this occasion, the insemination was unsuccessful.

But in August it did work - and Charlotte fell pregnant with Delilah, who arrived in April weighing a healthy 6lb 5oz.

Charlotte, who described Clive as "amazing", said she'd never regret using his controversial services.

“He came to our house, parked up in the street in his van, did what he needed to do and then he met my partner and gave her the donation to insert into me," she said.

“The whole process was a little bit embarrassing.”

Charlotte explained that they learnt about sperm donation from friends, and were keen to have a donor who wouldn’t want ongoing contact with the child.

“We wanted a donor, that’s all,” she said.

“He is never going to be her dad. She will, of course, have questions when she is older, and we will explain as best as we can. That’s all I can do.”

Clive’s physical appearance also appealed to the couple.

“We wanted her [our baby] to have blue eyes and blonde hair because we are both blue-eyed and blonde-haired naturally,” she explained.

BANK ON IT How does sperm donation in the UK work, do you get paid and how to find your nearest sperm bank?

Sperm donation can help couples struggling to have kids of their own or single women who want to start a family.

If you donate your sperm through a fertility clinic or a sperm bank, you won’t have any responsibilities or rights towards a child conceived using your semen.

However, as of April 2005, children conceived through sperm donation do have the right to ask for certain information about their donor once they reach the age of 16.

When they turn 18 they can also request to know the name and last known address of their donor.

The main reason men choose to donate their sperm is to help couples who can’t conceive naturally, or if they have a strong desire to pass on their genes to another generation.

In the UK, donation in exchange for payment is prohibited by law.

Explaining the process of finding Clive, she said: “There are donor pages [on Facebook]. We went on one of them.

"Someone said something about Clive, so we messaged him. We got talking.”

Charlotte told Clive “straight away” when she was pregnant. He messaged me, ‘let’s hope it’s a sticking bean’,” she said.

“But Clive wasn’t a part of the pregnancy at all,” she explained.

“However, I kept in contact with him the whole time and sent him pictures and the weight and stuff and [when she arrived] he put it on his Facebook.”

He also invited her to join a secret Facebook group of other donor parents, created by him.

“There is a page on Facebook which [connects all his donors] which he asked me to join,” she said.

Disputing any claims he is irresponsible - some people have said Clive's children run the risk of meeting and starting incestuous relationships while others have claimed that children need a permanent father, she added: “You could say the same about men who go around sleeping with people.

“This group is being responsible.”

Asked what was in it was Clive – who wouldn’t even accept expenses - she said: “He doesn’t get anything out of it.

“He thinks every woman deserves to be a mum and that’s why he does it.

“He’s amazing, he is a really nice man and he has been supportive throughout.”

She added she wasn't concerned about any health issues her then-unborn baby could have suffered.

Where does Clive stand legally?

As he is not offering his sperm via a Government-approved Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority-licensed clinic, Clive could be deemed the legal parent.

He hopes using the van will help mitigate any claims he is anything more than a donor.

Clive added: 'I also know, technically, if any of the ladies ever wanted to report me to the Child Support Agency in the future, they could nail me for 18 years for child payments.'

Previously Sun doctor Carol Cooper explained licensed UK fertility clinics checked the donor’s family history and test for chlamydia, HIV, hepatitis, syphilis, gonorrhoea and genetic conditions.

She added: "There isn’t necessarily anything amiss with Clive’s sperm at his age, but women should be aware of the possible risks."

But Charlotte added: "I’m not worried about health conditions purely for the fact I would never know that anyway with anybody. You cannot prepare for things like that and she is perfectly healthy.

You could ask any single parent who doesn’t know the father the same thing.... you don’t go asking your partner if they have any illnesses before you have a child."

Previously Clive said: “I give them the syringe and will talk to them for about five to ten seconds, just make a bit of idle chit-chat.

"They are often nervous and it’s just a way of putting them at ease.

“I know this is probably unusual but for me but  by doing it in the van there is far less involvement, less emotional attachment.

“About two-thirds of the people I have helped are same-sex couples. The others are heterosexual couples and a few are single ladies."

“I am not strict and I do believe every lady deserves to have a baby," he added.

“All I am doing is helping. I have always insisted on artificial insemination. I know some donors advertise this but it turns out they want sex.

“I have had several people turn around to me and say, ‘Crikey, Clive, it is so nice to meet a normal person’.”

On average he makes 16 donations a month but only a few tend to lead to a pregnancy.

Clive said: “I am so proud to have fathered 79 children. I love the joy it brings. So many people say, ‘Thank you so much, Clive, you really have changed our lives’.

“That, for me, is why I do it. It’s special. I wanted to help their plight because I love children so much.”

Clive become a sperm donor in 2013 but the idea started playing on his mind about ten years ago when he read the stories of others.
