MEGHAN Markle has given a surprise interview to US chat show host Ellen DeGeneres - after her bombshell interview with Oprah back in March.

The Duchess of Sussex has spent a lot of her working life in both the United States and Canada, but where is she from?

Is Meghan Markle American or Canadian?

Meghan Markle was born in Los Angeles, California, to parents Doria Ragland and Thomas Markle.

She’s American but spent a lot of her working life in Canada, where she filmed Suits playing the character of Rachel Zane.

Meghan attended Immaculate Heart High School, before she graduated from Northwestern University in Chicago with a double major in theatre and international relations.

She’s since travelled all over the world for work and for her charity and humanitarian pursuits, such as to Rwanda for the Clean Water Campaign.

When did Meghan and Harry move to Canada?

The pair posted on their Instagram on January 8 that they would be living in both North America and the UK - with Canada expected to be their second home.

Meghan fled to Canada the following evening on a £134 budget flight.

The couple moved to Vancouver Island, before relocating to Montecito, California, in the US.

When did Meghan Markle live in Toronto?

Meghan made Canada her home after landing her role on Suits in 2011, staying in the Seaton Village neighbourhood of Toronto, where the show is filmed.

She previously told her Instagram followers that "there's no place like home", as she gave them a peek at her cosy living room area where she used to read and relax with her pet dogs Guy and Bogart.20

The star was known to spend time at Trinity Bellwoods Park in the chic West Queen West neighbourhood, eat out near her home in the Annex, shop in Kensington Market, and have cocktails at the private Soho House club downtown.

She moved out in late November 2017 when her work on the show was complete, so she could focus on her new life in the Royal Family.

Did Harry and Meghan meet in Canada?

According to an interview with Meghan herself in , the couple met in London through friends in July 2016.

"We were introduced by a mutual friend", said Harry in the couple's first interview with the BBC after their engagement announcement.

Meghan said: "Because I’m from the States, you don’t grow up with the same understanding of the royal family,

"I didn’t know much about him, so the only thing that I had asked [our mutual friend] when she said that she wanted to set us up, was, 'Well is he nice?' Cause if he wasn't kind, it just didn’t seem like it would make sense."

Where did they spend their first Christmas with Archie?

Prince Harry and Meghan spent their first Christmas with baby Archie in a luxury hideaway on Vancouver Island.

Following permission from the Queen, they were joined by Doria Ragland, Meghan's mum.

The active, nature loving couple were seen jogging in the neighbouring town, and enjoyed long hikes.

As per tradition, the rest of the royal family spent Christmas together in Sandringham with the Queen.
