Size 14 redhead who didn’t leave the house as she ‘felt disgusted’ by her figure becomes Instagram star
Jade Thompson, 20, from Newcastle, says she felt 'overweight and disgusting' before she started her page and amassed 64,000 followers in just five months
A SIZE 14 woman who suffered so badly with body confidence issues she wouldn't leave the house has become an Instagram star after she started posting pictures of herself wearing skin-hugging outfits.
Jade Thompson says she felt "overweight and disgusting" before she started her page and amassed 64,000 followers in just five months.
The 20-year-old's self-image has been completely transformed after she got such an overwhelmingly positive response and she now goes out wearing whatever she wants.
Jade, from Newcastle, said: ";Before this I did not want to go out with my friends and I could barely leave the house because I had such little confidence.
"I just felt disgusting and that I could not wear what I wanted to because I was not a certain body type. That's how society makes you feel.
"I had seen other curvy girls on Instagram doing a similar thing but realised there were no redheads or anyone with my particular body type.
"I wasn't sure what kind of response I would get so I was thrilled when people commented positively on my posts and I started getting more and more followers.
"It made me feel so much more confident about my weight and now I go out wearing whatever I want.
"I now realise you don't have to be skinny to feel attractive in sexy clothes."
Jade prefers to model affordable brands such as Primark and Asda and says that although she has been given free products thanks to her page, she does not make any profit from it.
From the age of 11 Jade had DD size breasts and was always encouraged to cover herself up.
The heating design engineer said: "When I was younger I always had a bigger bust and I was told by my family and others to cover up."
Jade says she started putting on weight as she went through pubery.
She added: "I would never wear anything figure hugging or skimpy. Now my attitude has completely changed. I don't think twice about wearing a tight mini-dress.
"I feel better within myself and now have a more positive outlook on life. I want to show younger girls it is okay to be confident in your body shape, no matter what size you are."
"I think I have had so much success on Instagram because I am more relatable than your Gigi Hadids or Kendal Jenners. I represent the average woman.
"I know I don't have that supermodel physique but I want to show people that it is okay to be proud of who you are and not worry what others think."
She added: "I have had some abuse, the worst being when someone messaged me saying: ‘Hey fattie.’
"But that wasn't all that bad and I didn't let it bother me too much.
"The majority of the responses I get are extremely positive."
And Jade says she's delighted she's helping other girls beat their body confidence issues.
She added: "The feeling I get when a younger girl messages me saying that I have helped her in some way is just indescribable.
"I am surprised by how many followers I have. But I am delighted, and above all feel humbled by the fact so many people are interested in my pictures and what I have to say."
