Meghan Markle’s veil was so delicate Givenchy team making it were told to wash their hands every 30 minutes
ALL eyes were on Meghan Markle as she married her Prince on a sun-soaked day in Windsor.
The 36-year-old stunned in a Givenchy gown as she tied the knot at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
It has been revealed workers had to wash their hands every 30 minutes to keep her pristine white dress and veil - seen by millions around the world - dirt-free.
The dress was created by British designer Clare Waight Keller, artistic director for The House of Givenchy, and featured a whopping 15ft train.
It was hand-embroidered with flowers from all 53 countries of the Commonwealth, and workers were under strict instructions to continually wash their hands so as not to dirty the veil.
Hundreds of hours of work went into crafting the five metre-long creation, made with silk tulle and featuring the embroidered flowers along the trim.
It was a nod to the Queen, who also wore a long veil embroidered with flowers at her wedding in 1947.
The floral patterns were made with silk threads and organza, and workers had to wash their hands every half an hour to ensure not a speck of dirt got onto the white accessory.
Givenchy revealed: “Each flower was worked flat, in three dimensions to create a unique and delicate design.
“The workers spent hundreds of hours meticulously sewing and washing their hands every thirty minutes to keep the tulle and threads pristine.”
The impressive veil also featured two crops of wheat, to symbolise love and charity.
The dress itself “featured a graphic open bateau neckline that gracefully frames the shoulders and emphasises Meghan's slender waist.”
The slim three-quarter sleeves were said to add “a note of refined modernity”.
Clare said: “It is truly an honour to have been given the opportunity to closely collaborate with Meghan Markle on such a remarkable occasion.
“The delicate floral beauty of the veil was a vision Meghan and I shared, a special gesture embracing the commonwealth flora, ascending the circumference of the silk tulle."
She and Givenchy also designed Meghan's shoes and bridesmaid dresses.
