YOU might think that you know everything about Meghan Markle, who marries Prince Harry this weekend - but did you know what her favourite books are?
When the former Suits actress, 36, edited her now-defunct website The Tig she often shared details of her top reads - and they include The Little Prince and The Dress.
Website recently revealed the future Princesses full reading list.
Here, Sun Book Editor, Natasha Harding gives her verdict on what Meghan’s reading choices say about her.
Meghan called this a "must-have for waking up your inner badass".
In short, The Motivation Manifesto reminds us that we’re capable of achieving anything. The only thing standing in our way is ourselves.
Natasha says: “This book shows Meghan’s determined side, it’s like a call to arms, and full of motivational speak such as, "we shall advance with abandon".
Grace Coddington has lived and breathed fashion since she was a child growing up in Wales. Her memoir highlights how she went from being a model to working for Vogue magazine - first as junior editor then creative director.
Natasha says: “This book is about two things that Meghan is drawn to; women doing it for themselves and fashion. Grace exceeded everybody’s expectations of her - just like Meghan.”
The ultimate fashionista’s handbook was seen on Meghan’s Instagram - when she still had an account. It looks at the history of the iconic magazine, which began life as a weekly gazette in 1892.
Natasha says: “Meghan is already hailed a fashion icon and everything she wears sells out within days. If she’s taking style advice from Vogue, ‘The Meghan Effect’ is here to stay.”
Again, seen on Meghan’s Instagram, this book is a collection of dresses drawn by fashion illustrator Megan Hess. Included are Audrey Hepburn’s little black number and Princess Diana’s wedding gown.
Natasha says: “Meghan’s appetite for fashion clearly never wanes. Perhaps she’s planning which of her outfits will feature in the second edition of The Dress?”
Meghan is friends with Jake Rosenberg and mentioned his book on Instagram. It offers a sneaky peek into the lives and wardrobes of celebrities including Jessica Alba and Rosie Huntington.
Natasha says: “Always one to support her friends - what do you reckon the chances are of Meghan and Harry’s home putting in an appearance in the author’s next book?”
Meghan reportedly fell in love with the New York Times bestseller - and said: "It’s a book to dig into while flying". It tells the gut-wrenching story of neurosurgeon Paul Kalanithi’s journey from medical professional to patient.
Natasha says: “The book shows Meghan is not afraid to feel pain. The author died before he finished the book and his demise is incredibly hard to read.”
Meghan said: “My mom gave me a copy of this book when I was 13.” The author promises you can transform your life by following a set code of conduct.
Natasha says: “Meghan will have learnt ‘don’t make assumptions,’ 'be impeccable with your word’, ‘don’t take anything personally’ and to ‘always do your best’. Perhaps this is the best advice for marrying into the Royal Family?”
You’ll learn about the concepts of Taoism in a simplified way. When Meghan edited The Tig, she said: “Aspects of Taoism told through the characters of 'Winnie the Pooh' – I mean, does it get better?”
Natasha says: “Meghan will have drawn comfort from Pooh’s kind words when contemplating the hard times she’s encountered - not least when she divorced Trevor Engelson in 2013.”
A beautifully illustrated, classic tale that explores the meaning of life. Meghan said: “I have long been obsessed with this book.”
Natasha says: “Meghan likes books that teach her something and although this fable was written with children in mind, adults will benefit from being reminded there’s always hope.”
The word-of-mouth bestseller teaches you tools to get whatever it is you want in life. Meghan read the book at university and said: “It’s an invaluable quick read.”
Natasha says: “If this book was the first ‘self-help’ book Meghan read it has inspired her to continue with similar materials. If her ‘cheese’ was snaring a Prince, she’s won.”
Meghan shared this design book on her blog which teaches you how to personalise your home by tapping into who you really are.
Natasha says: “If Meghan is looking looking for style tips for Nottingham Cottage, where she’ll continue to live with Prince Harry, this book has a lot to live up to. The reception rooms at the property were designed by Christopher Wren."
Written to correct the assumptions that happiness is down to money, looks or your relationship. You’ll follow six exercises - including ‘be still’, ‘be thankful’ and ‘receive freely’ - that promise to ‘strengthen your happiness in 30 days'.
Natasha says: “Meghan has learnt that happiness comes from within - which will stand her in good stead over the coming years.”
Wow. Meghan’s bookshelf shows that she’s on a never-ending journey of self-improvement. I wonder if she ever escapes for a couple of hours with the latest Sophie Kinsella and reads purely for pleasure?
