She was born in London and is the older sister of IT recruitment multi-millionaire Gary Goldsmith.
She met Kate's dad Michael while working as cabin crew for British Airways.
They married on June 21, 1980.

Kate isn't the only child in the Middleton clan, she has a younger sister and brother.
Philippa Middleton, known to most as Pippa, is the middle child of the three Middleton children.
She recently married James Matthews in a relaxed but lavish intimate ceremony at her local church, St Mark’s Church in Englefield on May 20, 2017 and announced on April 22, 2018, that they are expecting their first child.
Kate's younger brother James is 31 and is the proud owner of novelty marshmallow company Boomf.
He also runs the Cake Kit Company, which delivers bespoke sweet treats and baking kits for special occasions.
James is yet to have any children.
So as things stand Carole has three grandchildren: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and little Baby Cambridge plus one baby-in-the-making from Pippa and her husband James Matthews.
