How to wear cowboy boots – dress for winter, work, festivals and even a date

STACKED wooden heel, slanted silhouette, v-cut cuff and naff embroidery - there was a time, not that long ago, when cowboy boots were best left in the depths of the Wild West.

But these boots are made for walking... the runway, your office corridors, train platforms and even to your next hot date - we promise!

Cowboy boots made a comeback at Raf Simons' first show for Calvin Klein

We’re keeping it chic this time around. So don your Daisy Dukes if you must, but don’t start thinking along the lines of Jessica Simpson in the video for her 2006 cover of These Boots are Made for Walking.

The controversial shoes were first spotted making a comeback on the catwalk at Raf Simons' debut show for Calvin Klein's last February. Then, they slowly crept into many of the Spring/Summer 2018 shows - Givenchy, Fendi, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana all had a go at creating a high-fashion version. And suddenly, we were seeing these shoes in whole new light.

Of course, Celebrity style icons certainly helped.

Last year, Alexa Chung showed us how to do smart cowgirl in a tailored tuxedo coat and midi dress while out and about in New York.

, no stranger to the trend since she starred in Calvin Klein's Autumn/Winter 2017 campaign, showed us that boots really are meant for walking - the red carpet.

The 13-year-old Stranger Things actress picked up her Best Actress award at the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2017 wearing a sparkly sequin shift dress and matching white cowboy booties.

Still, if you can’t keep but from harking back to the early-noughties take on this look, we urge you to do it Sienna Miller style.  Armed with her iconic Balenciaga City bag and a frayed denim mini back in 2004, the actress defined festival fashion, kick-started a bohemian craze and was truly the 21st century queen of cowboy boots (Sorry Jessica Simpson).

Dare to try this trend? Buy one pair of black boots and you can rock them at work, to parties and festivals, on a date and in colder climes too.

In the evening

When the sun goes down, opt for a sleeker pair of cowboy boots sans embroidery for versatility (we also like them with vinyl mini skirts). Go boho but in black, and add a hint of western-themed sparkles in the form of these sun and moon earrings.

To Work

Surprised? When a suit feels too formal for the office, cowboy boots can add just the right amount of sass. An oversized blazer plus kick flare trousers, equals a smart but directional look.

For Autumn/Winter

Step in to colder climes Calvin Klein style, with a turtleneck layered under a western shirt with sharp collars. The poppers on these River Island jeans nod to Jessie from Toy Story 2 (it’s a vibe, we swear) - un-button them just enough to showcase your new kicks.

For Spring/Summer

Sienna Miller take two - go bohemian but with a Western feel. So, think gauzy, cotton mini dresses in cream and white but with the prairie-inspired details like a pie-crust collar and ruffles. Stop things looking too Coachella day-to-day by keeping fringing to a minimum.

We've spotted some other celebrities rocking cowboys boots recently.

The wild-west theme is taking over, with double denim making a serious comeback - see how to style it here.

This trend a bit too much for you? See how to wear more simple pieces like the slip dress and the classic trench coat.
