What is Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding dress?

Meghan Markle walked up the steps of St George's Chapel and down the aisle wearing a dress by Hubert de Givenchy's label.

The dress is fitted with a simple design and elegant long sleeves and was made by British designer Clare Waight Keller.

The lines of the dress extend towards the back where the train flows in soft round folds cushioned by an underskirt in triple silk organza.

There was previously speculation that Meghan would opt for a Stella McCartney or follow Kate Middleton's example with an  Alexander McQueen dress.

When else has Meghan Markle worn Givenchy?

Meghan is clearly a huge fan of the designer and has worn the label for a number of occasions.

Aside from her wedding day, Meghan donned an elegant Givenchy collared dress with buttons down the front for her first Ascot visit.

She also wore Givenchy for her first solo public engagement without Prince Harry in Cheshire.

For the event, she donned a belted sheath dress, as she stepped out with the Queen.

Who was Hubert de Givenchy?

Hubert James Taffin de Givenchy, born on 21 February 1927, was a fashion designer, who died on 12 March 2018.

His father died when he was just three-years-old, and was raised by his mother and grandmother – and his creative family introduced him to designing.

He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris when he was seventeen-years-old.

Hubert’s first designs were for Jacques Fath, but he later designed for Robert Piguet and Lucien Lelong, and opened his own design house in 1952.

In 1953, he met Audrey Hepburn, who became one of the most prominent faces of his designs – as he designed costumes for her film characters and her own wardrobe.

Who else wore Hubert de Givency dresses?

One of the most famous dresses in the world is the black dress that Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany's in the 1961 film.

He had met Audrey on set for the 1954 film Sabrina, where he designed a stunning white gown.

He also designed a black lace dress with mask for How To Steal A Million in 1966.

Their professional relationship and friendship was so strong that he developed his first perfume collection for her, and she agreed to be the face of the fragrance for free.

He is credited with creating some of the most stunning gowns, and also inventing the shirt dress.

Grace Kelly wore a green Givenchy dress to the 1954 Oscars, for her Best Actress win in The Country Girl.

In 1961, he famously dressed First Lady Jackie Kennedy for her visit to Paris.

Jackie attended a ball at the Palace of Versaille wearing a white satin evening gown to meet President Charles De Gaulle.

In a more daytime look during her visit in Paris, she also wore a tweed suit designed by Hubert De Givenchy, proving that his designs weren't just for evenings.
