How to wear a leopard-print coat: the bold outwear trend that never gets old

THE LEOPARD print coat is a tricky trend to master, but once done right, we believe it can be worn just about anywhere - even to work.

This bold outwear choice has certainly made it's make mark on history, with just about everyone from iconic characters Pat Butcher to Mrs Robinson rocking it in their own way.

Pat Butcher or Mrs. Robinson - which team are you?

But the question is, which camp do you fall into?

You can make this coat classy or trashy depending on what you style it with.

Too over the top and you risk looking like Eastenders' favourite matriarch, but if you err on the sixties side of style next thing you know you're looking chic as Anne Bancroft in 1967 film The Graduate.

But it's not just these two characters that make this animal print so iconic.

Without a doubt, Kate Moss is the queen of the leopard print coat.

Always armed with her tousled bed-hair waves and a pair of 'I'm hungover' shades, Mossy is the model with the most - those striking spots constantly spice up her all-black outfits.

Meanwhile, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley manages to make this trend look super smart by opting for more tailored silhouettes and Bella Hadid cosies up in a more casual faux fur version paired with a crop top and Moschino waist belt.

All you need to do is buy one animal print coat and you're sorted for all manner of occasions - here's how to wear this trend in the cold, on a date,  on the weekend, and even to work:

In the cold

This one has to be an ode to Kate Moss - London's most legendary model has more than proved over the past twenty years that there is never a better way to look chic in the cold, than when you’re wrapped up in a furry leopard coat. This calls for an all-black outfit with rock 'n' roll accents like smudgy eyeliner and bed-head hair.

On date night

There is something just a little racy about this print, so on a date tone it down with a snow leopard version and that way you won’t look too try-hard (and can still afford to wear a sexy dress underneath). The faux fur texture of this Dorothy Perkins' version adds a real Hollywood feel to scarlet red satin.

To work

The smartest way to do leopard print is sixties, every time. That means cute collars, bracelet sleeves and A-line silhouettes. Embrace the theme with Mary Jane pumps, sleek roll necks and, of course, opaque tights - but tone down the wildness with muted shades.

On the Weekend

Leopard print, by nature, looks quite dressy. So, on the weekend, why not switch it up with other colours? This casual outfit clashes all the colours of the rainbow for a look that shouts sassy. We love how the sack silhouette and chunky zip splicing it makes this coat feel so modern.
