I'm offended!

Selfish, lazy victims who take offence at everything: Why I HATE being part of Generation Z

I'M offended and outraged that I am even writing this article and explaining myself to rest of my generation.

Why am I miffed? Well, perhaps it's because I am part of Generation Z - and practically everything under the sun offends us.

I may not enjoy being part of this generation, but I still enjoy the occasional selfie

I can already hear the chants of the teenage trolls calling me a traitor for turning my back on snowflakes.

But after growing up within Generation-Blame-Everyone-Else, I have decided that they just aren't my cup of tea.

I'm a 19-year-old writer - but I don't sit in Starbucks with my MacBook whining about life.

So, what is it that makes me dislike this generation so much? Shouldn't I be defending them since I am technically one of them myself? It's pretty simple. So simple in fact, that here's a lovely little list.

I am clearly not shy at Instagramming like your average Generation Zer, but that doesn't mean I agree with them

1) They are entitled and self-important

My generation believes that just because they exist and breathe air, the world owes them something.

I have seen countless iPhone-armed teens beg the heavens to reverse the Snapchat update that ruined their lives.

And yet they insist on having "a voice";.

They tend to think they are the first and only generation to make "big changes" in society: while forgetting that generations before them did way more than make up a Twitter hashtag.

2) They refuse to become actual adults

Generation Z is refusing to grow up - yet they wonder why they are labelled the Peter Pan generation...they simply don't want to leave their soft teenage shells.

Research from The Lancet shows that the semi-dependency of being a teenager now continues until the age of 24 - so what happens during those years after our 18th birthday when we do legally become adults?

The answer - not that much. The failure of some to even pay their parents rent is enough to make the generation before us gasp for air.

Parents continuing to do their children's washing-up and household chores is another reason why they never learn to get a grip.

Staying in education for longer is also why Generation Z fails to grow up - with less young people thinking about settling down and choosing to party at university instead.

This sounds great, since going to university is about education and gaining a qualification...unless you're from my generation.

To us, apparently, it means missing almost every morning lecture we have for the entire three years we attend.

3) They have created a hook-up culture

What someone decides to do with another person in their own bedroom is none of my business - but when you display it to the world via reality TV and social media, it becomes everyone's business.

Thanks to apps like Tinder, my generation believes in greater sexual freedom than ever before - which is great for LGBT acceptance, but means monogamy has gone out the door.

If you choose to have sex on TV, post about your sex life online or shove it down everyone's throat - do not be surprised when you are judged.

My generation wants a safety blanket, where they can talk about their personal life without anyone disagreeing with their choices - sounds realistic, right?

When someone does inevitably disagree with what their sexual morals entail, they become very, very offended.

The answer to this problem is simple - people will always disagree with you, just like how people will disagree with this article in general. If you can't take the heat, don't put it out there to the world.

If you're strong enough, then maybe you're not a snowflake after all.

4) They believe in free speech...but only when they agree with it

My generation loves to use the free speech card and claim it is part of their values. In reality, they only believe in free speech when it agrees with them.

As much as I also wish Donald Trump and his army of republican, gun-wielding followers would be quiet forever - that isn't democracy, or free speech - it's just my opinion.

If the view is reflective of the Generation Z agenda, then it can be said. If it disagrees with this agenda, then you better keep your mouth shut.

It reminds me of bloggers who block every single person online who disagrees with their posts. They claim they are "blocking out the negativity" when they are really just sticking their fingers in their ears and closing their eyes.

5) They want to look like a Kardashian

Teenage girls of Generation Z are working harder than ever - on making sure their lip fillers and waist trainers make them look exactly how they want.

Yes, thank you Kylie Jenner for convincing girls as young as 16 that they need to inject their face for absolutely no reason other than to make certain parts look bigger than the rest.

Of course, whatever cosmetic surgery someone decides to get is up to them - but is this really the message that we should keep sending to young adults?

Plastic surgery used to be something that only the celebs did and was something almost laughable just a few years ago. Now it is so readily available to any "normal" person, Generation Zers are reaching for the knife - while proclaiming self love and body positivity.

I don't hate this generation as much as it may seem. I love that we have a weird and unique internet-driven pop culture, quirky fashion and outstanding technology.

But, we aren't perfect. Every generation has their critics, from Generation Z being slammed as lazy, to the 80s' Generation Xers being branded as "lost".

So, Generation Z, its time to take it on the chin and pull up our socks up - because one day we will be old, grumpy and equally hateful of the generation after us too.
