Ever wondered how The Chase’s Beast got his name? The answer will blow your mind
He's been a Chaser since 2009, but his name has nothing to do with his size - or impressive knowledge
THE Beast has been a Chaser since day one of the popular quiz show, but have you ever wondered how he got his name?
Some have wrongly assumed the 52-year-old Chase star's name is a nod to his rather impressive stature - or his big brain.
But neither of these are the case, and the true origin of his name will blow your mind.
If you're a big fan, you may already know that The Beast's real name is Mark Labbett.
But you probably hadn't realised his surname is just a couple of letters out from the French words 'la bête' meaning, you guessed it, 'the beast'.
Abdul Fulham made the revelation on Twitter yesterday - and has left Britain gobsmacked.
He tweeted: "Only just realised that The Beast is called that on #TheChase because in french beast is la bête and his last name is labbett.
"Thought they called him The Beast cause he’s fat c***".
The post has racked up more than 37,000 likes and 10,200 retweets - as well as hundreds of comments.
One baffled viewer wrote: "Ahahaha I thought it was cos he was so good he's a beast! Oops my bad."
And another tweeted: "This has ROCKED my WORLD".
