The surprising reason Meghan Markle touches her hair in public, body language expert reveals

Despite years of experience on the red carpet, the former Suits star, 36, has been spotted regularly raising her hand to her face and fiddling with her locks during public appearances with Prince Harry.

But is there any significance to the common gesture? One body language expert certainly thinks so.

Elizabeth Kuhnke, a positive impact coach and author of claims it's a mechanism for coping with the pressures of being a royal.

She told : "It’s a physical and psychological calming gesture when feeling stressed, uncomfortable or stressed.

"It’s the adult version of a child clutching favourite toy, mother’s skirt or father’s hand when feeling anxious and not knowing what to do or say."

Apparently it's the fact that Meghan does it so frequently while in public with her fiancé that makes it a protective gesture.

"When feeling nervous - knowing millions of people are watching and judging - tilting one’s head down and playing with hair is a tell of the psychological state of the need to shield or protect herself," she explained.

Elizabeth pointed out that while Meghan is experienced at being in the spotlight, she is now finding her way in a new public position.

While her adoring fans once identified her with her role as Rachel Zane in Suits, she's now being viewed and judged as herself.

"Every movement, gesture and clothing choice is being scrutinised," said Elizabeth.

"She is no longer representing herself as an actress, she is being judged for her suitability as a member of the royal family."

Fellow body language expert  added that Meghan's hair touching is a "soothing gesture".

However it can also be a sign of confidence.

Bianca told : "With her head tilted, exposing her neck, which is a vulnerable part of the body, and hip pop, Meghan oozes allure.
