This is the moving reason why many stars wore white at the Critics’ Choice Awards
The Golden Globes may have been about wearing black, but last night stars opted for a new colour instead
THE Golden Globes hit headlines for everyone wearing black in support of sexual assault victims – but last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards had a powerful colour theme of its own.
Many of the actresses wore the colour white for their stunning gowns and there was a poignant reason for the decision.
While the blackout theme of the Golden Globes was meant to reflect the death of sexist Hollywood practices, the white theme was chosen to represent a new hopeful era.
Actresses like Emma Roberts and Angelina Jolie decided to channel the message of positivity, promise and the start of changing times for women.
Actress and humanitarian Angelina, 42, wowed in a white Ralph and Russo dress, which was covered with feathers.
She was joined at the 23rd Critics' Choice Awards in Santa Monica by Kate Bosworth, who wowed in an off-white gown from The Brock Collection, and Diane Kruger who wore a Vera Wang gown.
The white theme could indicate a theme of innocence and purity, giving the message that women who share their sexual assault stories should be listened to, instead of doubted.
In the past Angelina has been quoted as saying: “All too often, these kinds of crimes against women are laughed off, depicted as a minor offence by someone who cannot control themselves, as an illness, or as some kind of exaggerated sexual need out against this.”
Not everyone opted to wear white, and a number of the stars chose brightly-coloured gowns following the black code at the Golden Globes.
Nicole Kidman, who scooped up a prize for Big Little Lies, wore a bright pink gown that was covered in ruffles and sequins.
Meanwhile Allison Janney, who won an award for I, Tonya, opted for a bold, blue floor-length dress.
These were the Critics’ Choice Awards 2018 best dressed, from Angelina Jolie, Kaley Cuoco to Heidi Klum.
