EMERALD EFFECT

Is this the reason celebs opted for green jewellery at the Golden Globes?

THE Golden Globes this year made history when it was announced that women and men would be wearing all black to show solidarity with victims of sexual harassment.

Most celebs took part in the defiant gesture, which supported the Time’s Up movement, following the staggering number of sexual harassment accusations in Hollywood, and many other workplaces.

The result was a landscape of all black on the red carpet, so A-listers got creative with their accessories, because you can’t attend an awards ceremony without a little bling, naturally.

A number of stars opted for emerald green jewellery, which, as it turns out, was a significant choice.

The gemstone not only looked stunning, but also carries an ancient meaning which adds to the statement about fighting back against sexual harassment.

Emeralds are apparently a symbol of hope, renewal and growth; the ancient Egyptians thought that they stood for rebirth, and Aristotle believed that the stone would help wearers in their new ventures.

We don’t know whether the actresses chose the accessory for their significance, but we absolutely love the statement.

As more and more women have come forward about their own stories of sexual harassment, having support from Hollywood mega-stars is pretty empowering.
