Teacher discovers bizarre ‘cure’ for her extreme eczema – £8 UDDER CREAM
A TEACHER who suffered with eczema so severe she spent time in hospital claims her condition was “cured” by an £8 udder cream.
Megan Underwood, 22, has suffered with the itchy skin condition since she was two and in 2013 her eczema became so severe she was given hospital treatment for four weeks.
For two decades she had tried every treatment imaginable from over-the-counter ointments to prescription creams and diet changes, but nothing worked.
At points her eczema was so bad it covered her entire face and body.
Not only was it painful and irritating but it had a huge impact on Megan’s self-esteem with strangers shying away from touching her skin.
But then the former retail worker discovered MooGoo products, that used to be used on cows udders but has now been made for humans, and decided to give it a go.
The all-natural product was developed by an Australian company and was originally used to soothe the udders of milk cows.
But Megan said the unusual solution has worked wonders on her skin and she is now eczema free.
Megan, of Winchester, Hamps, said: “By the time I was 18 my eczema was horrendous.
“My skin was red raw. It was also swollen because of water retention under my skin.
“I could deal with my eczema if it wasn't on my face. I could see people's eyes moving around my face when they talked to me.
“A lot of people are really rude to me. People don't want to take money from my hands and people have asked me if I am contagious.
“I've tried everything and have spent thousands on different creams and treatments.
“I've tried a meat free diet, a dairy free diet, a grain free diet, I have bathed in oats, but nothing has ever worked for me before.”
After hearing about MooGoo’s products she emailed their customer service team pictures of her skin to ask if they had any products that would work for her.
“I started using the Skin Milk Udder Cream, the Scalp Cream and the Irritable Skin Balm and suddenly my skin changed,” she said.
“I didn't want to get too carried away because things had worked for me before and my eczema had always come back, but after using MooGoo it was an 'oh my gosh' moment.
“My eczema started to clear up and then it was gone. I couldn't believe it. I never thought that I would be in a position where I would be able to stand up to a classroom and teach.
“The products have changed my life. They have changed my whole outlook on everything.”
After all other treatments failed Megan attended a specialist appointment at London's Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital when she was 18.
Medics advised the teen to go into respite care for a period of four weeks and Megan had to undergo a course of treatment including coal tar treatment, zinc wraps, high doses of steroids, bleach baths and hydromol wash balls.
The treatments worked temporarily but after just a few weeks Megan's eczema returned.
“Every morning I had to get to the hospital for 8am and I would be bandaged up, receive more treatment and rebandaged again,” Megan said.
“My skin got better but I knew that when I went home it would just be the same again.
“I have a lot of allergies, so any weather changes or dust, mould or other things in the air can really affect my skin, so occasionally I still use a steroid cream on my dry patches.
“But where I used to go through a tube every day, I now only use one every six months.”
MooGoo's Skin Milk Udder Cream was formulated after founder Craig Jones's mother used an old fashioned country remedy to manage her skin condition.
The lotion was used by dairy farmers to keep cows' udders soft and supple but has now been changed for human use.
MORE ON ECZEMA
Laura, a spokeswoman for MooGoo said: “When Megan approached us in 2015 we were desperate to do something to help.
“Skin problems are more distressing than most people realise because they are a visible reflection of health.
“Our products are all made using natural ingredients and for people with skin conditions in mind.
“Different products work for different people but we know MooGoo has helped a lot of people like Megan so we knew it was worth her trying.”
