IT will feature on School for Stammerers on ITV - but what is the McGuire Programme featured on the show?
Here's the lowdown.
What is the McGuire Programme?
The McGuire Programme is an intensive and emotionally-charged residential course run by former stammerers.
The McGuire Programme was founded in 1994 by Dave McGuire, a stammerer.
The course uses physical and psychological techniques and can lead to life-changing results.
Over the four day intensive course, from 7am to 10pm the students can talk to no-one but their coaches. They can have no contact with their loved ones. And within 48 hours they’ll be forced to talk to complete strangers using the techniques they’ve learned.

What is the difference between a stammer and stutter?
Stuttering and stammering are actually just the same thing, they refer to a relatively common speech problem in childhood which can persist into adulthood.
What is a stammer and what causes them?
A stammer can present itself in a few ways; it can cause the person to repeat syllables, make words sound much longer or sometimes words can get stuck and not come out at all.
It can vary in its severity in different people, some who are barely affected at all while others can find the condition debilitating.
It’s hard to say what causes children to start stammering but the reassures parents that it won’t be caused by anything they have done.
They explain that the development of speech is complicated and depends on many factors and that problems can occur when parts of this developing system aren’t quite coordinated.
