Cadbury Freddos are being sold for 99p… and customers aren’t happy
Many millennials will have enjoyed the cheap and cheerful chocolate treat as youngsters, but it seems that you don't get much bang for your buck these days
PRICES for Cadbury Freddo bars have made a huge jump - and chocolate fans are fuming.
Many millennials will have enjoyed the cheap and cheerful chocolate treat as youngsters, but it seems that you don't get much bang for your buck these days.
The Dairy Milk chocolate frog bar has been the cause of much concern and amusement over the last two decades as the price has continued to inflate.
However, almost reaching £1 seems a step too far for many.
One shopper spotted the beloved bar selling for 99p in a Kingdom of Sweets store in London and tweeted: "Excuse me officer, I’ve witnessed a crime".
So much for the 10p bars of our youth.
People were quick to comment on the discovery and many were left in total shock by the price hike.
One user responded: "A mistake? Please tell me it's a mistake".
Another added: "The end is near."
Someone else joked: "Surely that's an offer 99p for 11".
However, it seems the 99p treat was in fact a SPECIAL type of Freddo - not readily available in the UK.
Kingdom Of Sweets told Sun Online: "Kingdom Of Sweets specialise in sourcing sweets that are either unavailable or very hard to find in the UK.
"We are Europe’s largest sweet shop and we pride ourselves on being able to offer a huge selection of weird and wonderful and exciting sweets from around the globe.
"Our customers shop with us because, amongst many reasons, they enjoy trying unusual flavours of classics such as Red Velvet Oreo’s or rare limited editions of favourites such as Unicorn Fruit Loops.
"Ensuring these items are on our shelves requires a huge amount of time dedicated to sourcing and shipping. We have a dedicated team of buyers sourcing products from all over the world and once import taxes are applied the cost increases, for example each product we offer is the result of a meeting or visit abroad to source products not meant for the UK customer, the cost of importing these sweets is often three times greater than the price of those readily available in the UK.
"Specifically, in the case of the Freddo item as per your article this is a Peppermint Freddo imported from Australia and those are unavailable domestically.
"This is sold alongside other rare imported versions including Strawberry Freddo, White Chocolate Freddo, and Popping Candy Freddo.”
