Five top tips to achieve the perfect bum like J.Lo and Kim Kardashian – and it’s not all about squats
If you target the right areas, use weights and eat the right foods you can have a perfect posterior in no time
BUMS are in, we've known it for quite some time.
But achieving that perfect J.Lo-inspired butt isn't as easy as you hope it might be.
After all, who wants to spend hours squatting in the gym?
While it's important, there are several other things you MUST do if you want a perky posterior like Kim K.
Keith McNiven, personal trainer and owner of Right Path Fitness, said: "Lots of women up and down the country are switching their fitness goals from losing a few pounds to building a serious booty - and we couldn’t support this concept any more.
"Big bums are beautiful and they’re here to stay.
"Gone are the days where 'does my bum look big in this?' is asked with a worrisome glance.
"Quite the opposite in fact, as now big and curvy bottoms are fashionable, desirable and quite frankly pretty fantastic."
Here are Keith's top five tips to getting the most desirable derrière...
1. Hit the books
Don't just head to the gym and hope for the best, make sure you know which parts of your body you need to work on.
"In order to truly build your peach like J.Lo, you need to go into the gym armed and dangerous with all the knowledge on which areas are going to target your glutes," said Keith.
"Of course, working out in general is great for toning up, but you want to really target your buttocks to really see the results.
"Research which types of exercises you need to be incorporating into your routine to help your booty grow and start working them into your plan right away."
2. Don't be afraid to lift
Many women shy away from weights for fear they will make them look too muscly and manly.
But it's the weights that provide enough resistance to help you build your bottom.
"If you want the waist to be thinner and the booty to be bigger, you’re going to need to start lifting weights," Keith explain.
"There’s nothing quite like some weight based exercises to help grow that butt, so get familiar with the weights corner and start to incorporate them into your workout routine.
"Kickbacks, walking lunges, curtsy lunges and deadlifts with a barbell will all play their part in helping you perfect the peach - so get acquainted with these moves and get to work."
3. Squat it like it's hot
Yes, you will have to do some squatting - but not as much as you think.
Keith added: "Booty building is no joke, as Kylie Jenner knows, and the absolute best thing for getting the perfect bum is to squat until you can squat no more.
"Squats are one of the most effective types of exercise for building your butt, so try and work as many different variations into your plan as possible.
"From your classic squat to a wide legged squat, a squat with weights or even a tricky one-legged squat, try your hand at a few different types and you’ll soon see the difference in your backside."
4. Feed your booty
It isn't all about the exercise, the food you eat plays a big role in how your booty grows too.
"They say that when it comes to getting the perfect body like Kim Kardashian's, 80 per cent of the work is done in the kitchen and 20 per cent in the gym," said Keith.
"This is also true for building your butt, so if you want to see the booty grow and take shape you need to be feeding it properly when at home.
"This means a healthy and balanced lifestyle with plenty of protein to encourage those gains.
"Eat right and train right and you’ll see results."
5. Be consistent
So you've been working on your behind for a couple of weeks and your muscles are tired and sore.
It may be tempting to give up, but you'll be giving up your dream of ever being bootylicious.
"Building the perfect bum doesn’t happen overnight," Keith said.
"It takes hard work and, most importantly, consistency.
"If your goal is to work that peach like Sofia Vergara then make sure you are regularly and consistently training your glutes.
"Patience is the key when it comes to seeing results. We promise if you put the work in, you’ll reap the rewards."
