From messy buns to mini braids, here’s our step-by-step guide for achieving effortless hair for your night-in
Staying home with the girls requires an easy hairstyle that does not take up precious relaxation time
IT’S freezing outside, you’re on a downer after Christmas and all you want to do is cuddle up on the sofa for a box-set binge.
An evening in with the girls calls for blankets, cosy knits . . . and easy hairstyles.
After all, you never know when someone will bust out the phone for a spontaneous selfie session.
Hairdressers to the stars and Salon Science ambassadors EVELINA LUNDGREN and ANDREW JOSE show you how to get set for your night in.
Messy braid bun
Step 1: Take a section of hair just above the forehead and divide into three small sections.
Braid by alternately placing the outer section over the middle section, secure with an invisible hair band.
Step 2: Take a smaller section of hair from behind the first braid and divide into two sections.
Create a fish tail plait by using your finger to separate a smaller strand from the outer edge of the section and crossing it over to the opposite side.
Repeat with a small section from the other side and continue this process until you reach the end of the hair and secure with an invisible band.
Step 3: Bring the rest of the hair round to the side, along with the braids, and secure in a pony-tail.
Twist the pony-tail round the band and secure in a bun.
Tease some of the hair out gently to create an undone look.
Cosy crimped waves
Step 1: This style works well with damp hair after washing. But if you haven’t just come out of the shower, spray hair with water.
Divide damp hair into five sections ready for braiding. For each of the five sections, split into three and begin by alternately placing the outer section over the middle section.
Step 2: Once each braid is complete, secure with bands and dry with hairdryer until 80-per-cent dry.
Step 3: Undo braids and tousle hair for effortless waves.

Super snug mini braids
Step 1: Using hair straighteners (try Lee Stafford Rainbow Shine straighteners, £69.99, Argos) clamp a small section of hair and rotate the straighteners round then pull down to the end of the hair to create a loose curl.
Do this all over for natural, loose waves.
Step 2: Take a few tiny sections of hair from the top of the head and braid by splitting each tiny section into three, then alternately place the outer section over the middle section.
Step 3: Secure each tiny braid with invisible bands.
Tranquil top knot
Step 1: Tip head to the side and apply a few pumps of volumising foam (try Salon Science Cellumax volumising foam, £15, Boots) to the middle of the hair, down to the tips.
Step 2: Gather hair together and scoop up into a high ponytail at the top of the head.
Secure with an invisible hair tie.
Twist ponytail around the hair band and secure with pins.
Step 3: Don’t worry about tidying it up – the key to this look is leaving it to look fabulously messy.
