The iconic cartoon idols all wear light, icey or sky blue dresses. And no, it's not a coincidence - it's meant to "empower" young girls.

Blue is the colour of trust, calm and serenity - as well as that of confidence.

Designer Christopher Kane told : "When you think of every Disney heroine—Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine—they're all wearing blue! It's a thing, Disney Blue."

"You're adding a bit of power to the character by giving her the blue," Leatrice Eiseman of the Pantone Color Institute told .

"It's a very subtle way of saying, 'Yeah, but young women, young girls, can be empowered, too.'"

While sky blue is also a symbol of positivity and hope, Leatrice added: "It's dependable. It's reliable. It might cloud up, but we know it's there."

And it's meant to send a message of 'empowerment' to young girls

And Disney's sending a third very important message with the dresses - that blue isn't just for boys, and not all princesses have to be pretty in pink.

Disney princess fans may be interested in Missguided's new range of £18 Disney T-shirts but the shop has opted to go for black, not blue.

While the REAL endings to these Disney fairy tales will haunt you, from Sleeping Beauty being raped in her sleep, to Pinocchio getting hanged.
