David Beckham wannabe who spent £20k on Botox, liposuction and fillers to look like idol admits obsession drove him to suicide bid
Jack Johnson is now seeing a therapist and has been told he has body dysmorphia
A DAVID Beckham wannabe who splashed £20,000 on cosmetic procedures in a bid to look like his idol says his obsession nearly killed him.
Jack Johnson, 21, from Nottingham, spent years trying to emulate Goldenballs, undergoing monthly tan injections, lip, chin and cheek fillers, Botox, liposuction and treatment for dental veneers.
But Jack is now reversing the medical work after admitting his unsuccessful bid to mirror Victoria Beckham’s husband drove him to a suicide bid.
“I tried to take my own life because trying to look like Beckham is a full time job and is not easy,” he told the .
“Trying to look like Beckham nearly killed me and I don’t want others to make the same mistake.”
Jack paid for the surgery by using his Disability Living Allowance, taking out loans and borrowing money from his brother. He is now struggling to pay off debts of £14,000.
“I’m not speaking out because I want notoriety or fame anymore - I’m genuinely doing this because I’ve come out the other side of it,” he said.
“When I was on This Morning Holly or Phil asked me if I was happy. I told them I was but really I wasn’t - I was in the worst place ever on the inside.”
Jack tried to kill himself four months ago by taking an overdose of tablets. He was found by a friend and taken to hospital.
He has since had sessions with a therapist and been told he had body dysmorphia - a condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance.
He added: “I obviously don’t blame David Beckham, it’s not his fault. I was trying desperately to look like him and it nearly cost me my life.
“I feel like I’m in the best place ever now - and I really don’t want anybody to go through what I have.
“Nobody should ever aspire to look like celebrities to that extent, and I’m an example of that. You need to just be yourself.”
In October 2016, Jack had his house daubed in human poo by ‘stalkers’ jealous of his looks.
In March 2017, Jack took to Facebook and claimed he had lied about ever wanting to look like Becks.
