Fitness blogger slammed as ‘ignorant’ for saying ‘cancer is your body trying to save you’
A HEALTH blogger has come under fire for her comments on Instagram about cancer.
Olivia Budgen, a Brisbane-based well-being coach, uploaded a controversial post that said "Cancer and disease is your body trying to save you."
In the , which has attracted a torrent of criticism in the comments, she starts by saying: “Allow me to possibly challenge your beliefs about cancer and other diseases.
“What if these conditions were not actually bad at all? What if they were created by the body to help save you? What if disease is your body’s survival mechanism?”
She continued that many people see disease as a “monster” and that they falsely believe that it is an indication that their immune system isn’t working properly and can’t heal the body.
Olivia wrote: “Being open-minded and changing your perspective around what disease actually is and why it’s happening, will allow you to take back control of your health and realise that your body is ALWAYS working for you, and never against you.
“The immune system is always there to keep the body free of contaminates.
"Unfortunately in many cases this isn't possible because organs such as the liver, large intestine, lungs, kidneys and skin become overtaxed with toxins and don’t eliminate efficiently.”
She carried on that the overload of toxins build up and suffocate cells when they fill connective tissues, and they turn into cancer cells as a result.
Around 162,000 people are dying of cancer each year in the UK alone – through either genetic or external factors –so the post has understandably caused a stir online.
One user commented: “Should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself for talking so much ill informed nonsense on what is an important and emotional subject.”
Another said: “I’m living with my 5th diagnosis of Cancer right now. And I can promise you, that what you’ve said there is utter, unrelenting b*****ks.”
And one person added: “Not even a mountain goat will come up with something so stupid like this.”
