Mum with selfie dysmorphia reveals she got plastic surgery to look like her Photoshopped snaps

A WOMAN with selfie dysmorphia became so hooked on photo retouching apps that her love for plastic surgery got "out of control".

To look more like the airbrushed images, Lucy O'Grady has had Botox, lip and chin fillers, teeth whitening and a nose job.

The mum, who is a full-time carer for her autistic son Stirling, 11, became self-conscious about her natural appearance after seeing the Photoshopped version of herself.

On ITV's This Morning, she revealed: "What stared out as taking the odd selfie. I downloaded the apps and started to edit my pictures when I took them.

"I found when I was feeling down I would take some pictures. It was a quick fix to take pictures, edit and upload, thinking I look alright there.

"The trouble is when you look back in the mirror after taking away your flaws you become dissatisfied with what you are seeing."

As Lucy battled with body confidence issues, her confidence took another blow when someone she met online told her she looked different in person.

The mum-of-three first dipped her toe into the world of plastic surgery by getting fillers in her chin and top lip.

But becoming addicted to the cosmetic enhancement, she was soon getting them topped up twice a year.

Lucy's surgery addiction soon took its toll on her bank balance, as she splurged £200 a month on Botox to smooth out her wrinkles.

In November 2016, she also went through a £2,000 nose job in Prague.

Knowing that she had to do something to change her life, Lucy decided to take a break.

She remembered: "I'd known for a while it had got out of hand and I was too preoccupied with how I was looking.

"Financially it was eating away at me and I realised I could spend the money in better ways. I took a break form social media and went on holiday."

Thankfully, this was all it took for Lucy to break the surgery cycle.

She explained: "I’m happy with myself now which is why I’ve spoken up about this.

"There's quite a stigma attached to dysmorphia and it's passed away as vanity.

"Actually a lot of women are suffering from low self esteem. They need to realise it's a fake reality."

In the same This Morning segment, cosmetic surgeon Dan Marsh gave his view on Lucy's addiction to going under the knife.

He urged viewers to remember that it is ";unrealistic and unachievable" to look as you do in retouched selfies in real life.
