BEAUTY fans claim their hair was stained green after using L’Oreal Colorista dye.

The £6.99 semi-permanent pastel hair colour comes in 13 shades, from lilac to bright orange, and is said to wash out in “one to two weeks”.

But users have taken to Twitter and said, weeks or months after they used it, the colour has faded but left a blue or green tinge.

Lydia wrote: “L’Oreal Colorista hair dye in purple turned my hair GREEN. I’ve been using semi perm. hair dyes for years, THIS IS THE WORSE THING EVER.”

Clara commented: “I’ve been wondering why my hair turned green and now I just found out that apparently L’Oreal Colorista stains your hair green.”

Kayleigh wrote: “Never use L’Oreal Colorista washout, put the blue one in my hair in Feb. came out green never washed out and now bleach won’t take it out.”

Another social media user shared a shot of her green-tinged brunette locks, and said: “How can I get rid of this green tint in my hair? It’s from L’Oreal Colorista bleach then colorista teal. I don’t think it’s washing out any…”

L’Oreal warns that people with bleached or blonde hair should not use the turquoise, burgundy, red or orange dyes.

However, there’s no suggestion that lilac, blue or purple aren’t suitable for bleached or blonde hair.

The temporary dye is currently for sale on , where it has 53 one star reviews.

“DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT- I used the lilac hair colour and although the colour was nice, when it because to wash out it made my hair bright frigging blue," commented one.

"I am not happy at all and have had to rebleach my hair to get rid of the blue."

Another said: “Initially it was an OK colour although didn't give very even coverage. Reason for 1 star is after one wash the colour had basically gone and it started turning green... took ages for the green to fully disappear!

"*As a side note I also brought the pink which was a much better colour, has not turned my hair green and lasted about 3 washes.”"

One person claimed it “ruined” their hair.

They said: “WORST PRODUCT EVER!!!! I had lovely silver / white hair and had tried the pink colorista which washout perfect. THE BLUE ON THE OTHER HAND DID NOT!!!!

"I have just been to the hairdresser and had my hair dyed brown to get rid of the horrible green colour that did not wash out... TOTALLY RUINED MY HAIR!!! DO NOT USE.... EVER!!!!”

The Sun Online has contacted L’Oreal for comment.

L’Oreal told : ‘The Colorista brand offers a new approach to delivering a range of colour effects to the hair – from cool pastel shades to super bright hair colours.

"As with all hair colour products, the end-result will vary from individual to individual based different factors, including application techniques, hair condition and hair colour history.

"L’Oréal Paris takes all feedback from our consumers very seriously.  We will investigate this matter further and will take the appropriate decisions regarding the particular shades."
