Mum reveals clever tip for removing splinters from kids’ fingers painlessly using a Calpol syringe
A MUM revealed her ingenious hack for removing splinters on Facebook – and it has been shared over 65,000 times.
Housewife Claire Bullen-Jones, 28, from Wigan said the secret to getting rid of splinters pain-free is simply to use a Calpol syringe.
On , she said that the trick is to put the small hole of the Calpol syringe, which is typically used for giving kids accurate dosages of medicine, over the splinter.
Next, you quickly pull upwards and the suction should quickly and painlessly pull the splinter right out which she claims causes minimal distress to youngsters.
Claire revealed that she has been using the handy trick for years with her kids after her husband Chris came up with the idea.
She confessed she was prompted to share the tip with other parents after seeing a friend’s Facebook post about her own child having a splinter.
Leigh-based Claire, who has daughters Macie, eight and Lilly-Mai, seven, wrote: “Kids got a splinter? Grab the calpol box and take out the syringe that comes with it.
“Make sure it’s clean obviously! You need to make sure there’s a little bit of a gap before you start – picture for example.
“Put the small hole at the bottom of the syringe as best you can over the splinter. Once you know you’re above it, make sure the syringe is touching the skin – and pull!
“Make sure there’s no gaps otherwise you won’t get it! The syringe will more than likely pull it out in the first go!”
She gushed that the method is pain-free and doesn’t involve any tugging so little ones don’t get scared or upset.
Claire continued: “Don’t pull slowly! ‘You need to pull rather quickly! If it’s a stubborn splinter, just do this a couple of times!
“Saves so much time, and well worth seeing the kids smile at the end of it rather than red faces and tears! Because the plastic is clear, you can check what’s been taken out of the skin! Best parent hack to date! Pass it on mums and dads!”
Mums were quick to comment on the parenting hack and share how helpful the tip was.
One said: “Definitely be doing this next time!! Fab idea.”
Another wrote: “One of my favourite mum hacks haha!”
