A top jeweller has outlined five warning signs brides-to-be need to be aware of when accepting a sparkler from their man... and they're rather controversial

A TOP jeweller has outlined five warning signs brides-to-be need to watch out for when agreeing to marry their partner - and they all centre on the engagement ring.

Shockingly, believes that it's easy to work out if the man you're set to wed isn't the one if he buys you one of these five types of engagement rings.

From small diamonds to random jewels, he argues that they are ALL red flags - and a sign that you shouldn't be walking down the aisle with the man who went down on one knee for you.

His comments are sure to be controversial, especially his thoughts on people buying their betrothed small diamonds.

Last month there was outrage online when an Australian woman tweeted that she would "cry" if her boyfriend proposed with a tiny rock, with angry women blasting her as being shallow, and proudly explaining why they had small diamond engagement rings.

But David says that it is something to be concerned by, and that it probably means that your man isn't willing to make a longterm commitment rather than just being unable to afford anything bigger.

He said: "An engagement ring is a promise for forever and the size of the gem should reflect that commitment.

"A small gem stone screams of frugality (and tightness) and doesn’t bode well for a happy, long-lasting life together."

David also says that the type of gem used in the ring should be analysed for potential future issues.

"A dull gem stone could mean that he's not as excited about getting married as you are," he said.

"Engagement rings are made to be shown off – to friends, family, your social media followers (naturally) and even to strangers on public transport.

"A man who presents a dull gem stone probably isn’t as excited about the engagement as you are. You deserve better."

And David adds that the type of stone in the ring could also signal a doomed romance.

He said: "Excited to be presented with your long-awaited engagement ring – complete with quirky, unusual gem stone - only to find out it’s his ex’s birthstone?

"He has his ex on his mind. To avoid a Ross/Emily/Rachel wedding situation – probably best to nip things in the bud before you go down the aisle."

Ladies shouldn't only be paying attention to if their man knows their birthday either, David says the ring can prove whether or not your future husband truly knows YOU.

David said: "Are you a big jewellery person and your love has presented you with a small, discreet, neutral ring?

"Or do you have a stock pile of golden jewellery pieces yet your new engagement ring is silver?

"If your ring doesn’t reflect your tastes you have to ask yourself – does this guy even know me?"
