Those who have two to four cups a day were better off than patients who drank none or little

A REGULAR coffee slashes the risk of having a repeat heart attack, a study has revealed.

Patients who have two to four cups a day were a third less likely to die from further cardiac problems than those who drank none or little.

The effect was slightly less dramatic for those who got through more than four cups a day, the Dutch researchers found.

The findings, from a study of 4,000 men and women, build on previous research highlighting coffee’s  heart benefits.

The British Heart Foundation said: “Coffee drinkers should not rest on their laurels. Rather than focusing on coffee intake, concentrate on an overall healthy lifestyle.”
