Demi Lovato on keeping her ego in check and why she’s stopped saying sorry
Singer's family are 'brutally honest' with her, which has always meant she's stayed grounded
"It’s important to be honest. Being that way has always come naturally to me.
"I’ve grown up with some brutally honest family members who wouldn’t let me be any other way.
"They keep things real for me and help me stay grounded.
"My music comes from personal experiences. Life provides constant inspiration.
"I don’t believe in regrets, but there are some songs I won’t release because I feel like they would hurt the person who inspired them if they ever got out.
"Stop being sorry. I wrote my latest song Sorry Not Sorry as an anthem for anyone who’s ever been hated on, has risen above it and come out the other side like a savage.
"My fans have been tweeting me their Sorry Not Sorry moments – I love hearing the way they connect with the lyrics.
"The best advice I’ve received is not to believe in the hype. I can’t remember who told me that, but it’s stuck with me all these years.
"Being in the entertainment industry can really affect your ego so I always keep those words of wisdom in mind.
"And my advice to others is to surround yourself with good people who will support you, no matter what you’re going through.
"Those are the people you can be open with and talk to about anything.
"I feel most confident when I’m on stage. And I stay confident by taking care of myself – I love to meditate.

"When my mind and my body are in line, I feel like I’m unstoppable.
"I recently released my own activewear range for Fabletics, which is really important to me because I’m all about promoting a healthy lifestyle and looking after yourself.
"My dream collaboration is with Eminem. I’ve always been such a big fan of his music but I’ve never quite had the courage to reach out – hopefully I will one day.
"Something else I’d like to make happen is a holiday! If I could take off anywhere next week it would be somewhere tropical.
"I’ve never been to the Maldives so I’d like to go there, or maybe Santorini – it looks so pretty.
I still get nervous when I release new music.
"But if I do get criticism I try to brush it off because ultimately I never put out anything that I’m not proud of.
"So as long as I’m making music that I appreciate, I’m going to be happy with whatever the hell comes with it."
Demi’s single Sorry Not Sorry is out now.
