These Games of Thrones characters were recast during filming and you probably didn’t even notice
GAME of Thrones wouldn't have enjoyed any of its enormous success if not for its varied and vibrant characters - and the gifted actors who brought their roles to life.
But a few big names in Westeros underwent very drastic transformations between series, when the actors playing them were changed suddenly.
Among them are major characters like former-king Tommen Baratheon and his sister Myrcella, who were both recast when their roles became more important.
You may never have even noticed, but they weren't the only characters to undergo drastic overnight transformations...
Ser Gregor Clegane (The Mountain)
The fearsome Mountain is the only character in Game of Thrones to have been played by not one, not two but three separate actors.
Aussie stuntman Mark Stevens starts off playing Ser Gregor in season one, but his time as The Mountain was short lived.
A scheduling clash saw Welsh stuntman Ian Whyte step in to the character's enormous boots until season four, when Ser Gregor underwent a drastic makeover all-over again.
Icelandic actor Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson ended up playing the monstrous warrior from season four onward - and is set to keep his role until the bitter end.
Daario Naharis
Dany's handsome mercenary Daario Naharis rode into season three with more hair than you can shake a sword at.
But the long-locked love interest, initially played by Ed Skrein, didn't quite fit the bill as a believable bit on the side for Queen Daenerys.
So the merc had a drastic makeover in season four, when he reappeared in the form of Dutch actor Michiel Huisman with a splash more roguish charm and much less hair.
Tommen Baratheon
King Tommen was a character who seemed to age at a rate of knots, thanks to a timely recast when he became more important.
We first see the future king as a young boy, played by Callum Wharry, in the early seasons of Game of Thrones.

But before Tommen can park himself on the Iron Throne in season four, he was recast as Dean-Charles Chapman.
The older, more experienced actor had previously played the small part of Tommen's cousin, Martyn Lannister, in season three.
The three-eyed raven
The all-seeing three-eyed raven was seen briefly in season four, when he was played by Struan Rodger.
But before the character could take on a bigger role, he was recast as legendary actor Max von Sydow.
Myrcella Baratheon
Tommen wasn't the only Baratheon child to undergo a serious transformation - his sister Myrcella did too.
In the first two seasons, the princess was played by Aimee Richardson, who stayed in the role right up until Myrcella was shipped off to Dorne.
But when we next check in with the all-grown-up princess in season five she is being played by Nell Tiger Free.
The Night King
Chief of the White Walkers, The Night King has steadily increased in importance since his introduction in series four.
Richard Brake brought the undead king to life up until season six, when Vladimir Furdik took over the role.
Dickon Tarly
Freddie Stroma played Dickon Tarly when we first met him at the dinner table in season six.
But by the time season seven came around, Dickon had been recast as Tom Hopper, as a result of a scheduling clash.
