Fabulous got the low-down from industry experts on what trends are top of their A/W '17 must-buys.
THE best bit about summer creeping towards its end is the hot new shop drops for A/W '17.
So we got the best in the industry together to find out their must-buys - but you'll have to be quick, we have a sneaking suspicion these beauts will be snapped up sharpish.
Topshop
Mo Riach, head of design
“I love the heritage trend that’s coming through for the new season.
“It’s a real celebration of British fashion, from heritage tweeds, houndstooth checks and rich tones to iconic pieces including the trench, the Crombie coat and the striped banker shirt.
“The trend has a neutral palette, so we’ve added bright highlights like red collegiate stripes and bold knits to keep it modern.”
Debenhams
Leandra O’Sullivan, head of womenswear design
“This upcoming season, I’ll be all over checks. The trend is about reinventing the classics, such as this monochrome wool coat from J by Jasper Conran.
“Three-quarter length and double-breasted, it looks equally great over a little black dress or a pair of boyfriend jeans. And a slogan tee is another key piece for A/W.”
Primark
Rachael Field, design controller
“For the ultimate power-dressing look, this little green dress ticks all the boxes. Asymetric? Check. Pleather? Check.
“Plus suiting is back with a bang for A/W ‘17, so we’ve updated the traditional two-piece in this season’s must- have colour: show-stealing red.”
Kurt Geiger
Ashleigh Bernstein, junior PR manager
“For me, it’s always about the statement accessory – and this season is no different.
“We’re championing pearls as an absolute must-have for autumn. I’ll be sporting a pair of Carvela Kurt Keiger Alabasters – a stunning killer heel adorned with pearls – and I’ve just snapped up these eagle drop earrings. They’re the perfect everyday accessory for work or the weekend.”
River Island
Jessica Pershad, buying manager
“Head-to-toe colour-block dressing is going to be big for autumn. This is a trend you can have fun with, but keep the look fresh by layering items, plus make sure there is a strong contrast in fabric and textures.
“The spectrum of shades ranges from sophisticated granite greys, aubergines, reds and camels to pops of pink that will carry you through into the winter season.”
New Look
Alex Dimitriu, womenswear director
“One of my favourite trends is ‘Way Out West’. Western-inspired, it’s filled with texture and has a rich, autumnal palette.
“With contrasting trims and buckles, the aviator jacket is a staple, versatile enough for both daytime and cool nights out.”
TU at Sainsbury’s
Anna Clarke, head of design
“The Bordeaux velvet bomber will definitely make an impact this autumn. It’s the go-to shape and versatile enough to dress up or down.
“I would wear it off-duty with denim or style it up with a jumpsuit for evening. I can’t get enough of the colour!”
H&M
Hannah Kingsman, showroom manager
“Metallics and futuristic details are huge this season.
“These statement silver boots are the perfect way to embrace the trend and will brighten up rainy days. While this gold puffa jacket gets double points for being stylish and keeping you cosy through winter.”
Dorothy Perkins
Mel Mercer, design director
“This dress ticks all the style boxes for A/W.
“Its ‘look-at-me’ red is vibrant and punchy, while the high neckline and ruffle details add a feminine edge. The fluted, tiered sleeve shows the statement ruffle trend has continued from S/S but been updated for the new season.”
