Three Sun readers ditch the slap and face their long-term partners for the first time without make-up
Three make-up addicts decide to confront one of the biggest hurdles in their relationship by baring their face to their lovers
BARING your soul is often the biggest hurdle in a relationship – but for some, baring their face is even harder.
A quarter of British women refuse to let their partner see them without make-up. Ever.
Nearly half fall asleep in their make-up while almost one in five wake up earlier than their other half to apply some, according to research by .
Here, JENNY FRANCIS challenges three make-up addicts to go barefaced in front of their partners for the very first time.
'I love to use make-up to reflect my personality'
MAKE-UP artist Jasmine Louise Jones jumps out of bed before boyfriend Joseph O’Brien to make sure she has a full face of make-up on before he awakes.
But after our barefaced photoshoot, Jasmine, 22, found the confidence to let photographer Joe, 29, see her au naturel.
The couple live together in Northamptonshire and have been dating for three years.
JASMINE SAYS: “I always have at least some foundation or concealer and mascara on.
“Make-up boosts my confidence.
“I’ve worn some form of make-up since I was about nine and I feel naked without anything on.
“I love to use it to reflect my personality.
“Until now, my family were the only people to see me with without any make-up.
“It felt very daunting revealing my bare face in front of strangers and, more importantly, my partner.
“I was shaking as I used the wipes to take the make-up off my face but I eventually lightened up.
“I definitely won’t be running off to my make-up table to make sure I have something on before Joe wakes up any more. I will still wear make-up – but just when I feel like it, not because I feel I need to.”
JOE SAYS: “I do find it hard to see why Jasmine can’t go out without make-up. We’ve been together for a while now and live together.
“There’s no need for her to spend ages in front of a mirror before we can do anything – especially when it’s just us two and we aren’t even leaving the house.
"I could obviously see a difference between the two looks. It’s weird, her eyes look smaller.
“Jasmine is a stunning young woman though and no amount of make-up will ever change that. That doesn’t mean I don’t like her with make-up on too, though.”
'He laughed...but in a nice way'
STUDENT Lucie Pearson even applies concealer in the middle of the night so her boyfriend Sam Rowe does not see her totally stripped back.
The 22-year-old has been dating gardener Sam, 25, for 14 months.
They live together in Maidenhead, Berks.
LUCIE SAYS: “I was apprehensive about Sam seeing me without any make-up. I don’t wear an awful lot but I always make sure I put my eyelashes on and use concealer to make myself look more awake.
“Sam always gets up before me so I can hide under the covers but if I get up in the night and look awful, I put some concealer on before going back to bed.
“When Sam saw me without make-up, he laughed but in a nice way.
“I think he was wondering what all the fuss was about.
“Now he’s seen me without make-up, I’ve realised it’s not as bad as I thought.
“I could get used to not wearing any make-up in certain situations.”
SAM SAYS: “Lucie looked very different at first, I’ll admit that. She looks younger for sure – it’s strange.
“I think seeing her without make-up just takes some getting used to as I’ve only ever been allowed to see her with a full face on.
“I still think she looks really nice without any make-up, though.
“I’ve told her before that she’s naturally beautiful and she should have the confidence to go without it.”

'We've got more time to cuddle'
TRAINEE beautician Anta Wilkins has been seeing musician Nase Swan, 24, for six months.
The 22-year-old from Poplar, east London, is worried she will not be confident in front of her man without make-up.
ANTA SAYS: “I work in the beauty industry so I guess there’s always that pressure to look your best.
“Whenever I see women who don’t wear make-up, even if they’re in Tesco, I genuinely don’t understand it.
“I met Nase at a gig when I was all made up and I can’t bear the thought of him seeing me au naturel.
“I won’t take my make-up off before bed and get up early to put more on before Nase wakes up.
“I regularly take 30 minutes to get ready – after showering.
“When Nase did see me without make-up on, he told me I looked even more beautiful.
“He said he’s always preferred the natural look but has never had the guts to tell me.”
NASE SAYS: “For quite some time, I’ve wanted to tell Anta that I don’t like lots of make-up. She wears too much.
“Seeing her without it was great. She looks gorgeous. I wish more women would do this with their partners.
“Whenever we stay at each other’s place, she always dashes out of bed to ‘make tea’ – but I now know she’ll run into the bathroom to put on some foundation and mascara.
“Hopefully we can spend more time cuddling in bed now instead.”
