A WOMAN has been left heartbroken after discovering her boyfriend of three years has been lying to her about his age.
Cam had told girlfriend Kaitlin he was 30 years old, but admitted he's actually significantly younger than that.
"I lied. I'm actually 22 years old," he said.
"What the… That is 11 years younger than me," Kaitlin spluttered.
"Three years I thought was way too much."
But the lies didn't end there either.
In an episode of MTV's Help! I'm in a Secret Relationship, Cam revealed that he had also told Kaitlin he shared a house with an older couple.
However, as he opened up about his deception, he admitted the truth about their identity.
"The couple that I live with are my parents," he said, in a clip of the show
"And I didn't tell you the truth about their names as well. Their names are Emily and Chad."
"So that's another lie," hosts Travis Mills and Rahne Jones pointed out, asking: "Why change their names?"
"I was just afraid if she started doing some digging, she would find out who they are and who I actually am living with," he said.
Kaitlin - who had wanted to "start a life together" with her beau - slammed his "bulls**t", at which point Cam insisted: "I truly do want that with you!"
"You're 22," Kaitlin responded.
"You don't know what you want out of life!"
Cam then revealed that his parents do know about his relationship, and had also asked to meet her, but he had "always made excuses".
"I was not telling them the truth as well," he sighed.
With Kaitlin replying: "I mean, it's lie after lie after lie."
New data has revealed that 40 per cent of us know someone who has been catfished, while 22 per cent have fallen for catfish themselves.
April Davis, founder and president of , has shared five key ways you can catch a catfish.
1. You can't find them online
Almost everyone has a social media presence - especially those who are willing to try dating apps. So if you can't find them anywhere online, like a Facebook, Instagram or even LinkedIn account, this could be a major red flag.
April says: “If you’re suspicious, ask to add them on Facebook or Instagram. If they refuse or the account they send you looks new, that’s a red flag.”
2. Conversations got personal, quickly
Catfish are well known for ‘love-bombing,’ which is a form of emotional manipulation.
So, if the person you’re talking to immediately goes over the top with compliments, wants to communicate all the time, and makes statements like ‘I love you’ within a few days of speaking, it’s a big red flag.
3. They don't open up
If someone is asking a lot of questions about you but is not willing to offer up much in return, this could be a catfish red flag.
This is because these scammers are, of course, not who they say they are and it can be hard for them to keep their lies straight.
As a result, most catfishes would rather not give out any personal info at all if they can help it.
4. They ask for money
Asking for money, no matter the reason, is a huge red flag.
Whether they want a bank transfer or your credit card number, catfishes have a wide range of sob stories to tell when it's time to try to swindle you out of your cash.
5. They won't show their face
Unsurprisingly, someone who doesn't want to show who they are in a video call or real-time pictures could be a catfish.
The last thing a catfish wants is for you to see their real face because they usually steal pictures from someone else to use.
This means they are likely to refuse to send photos or do video calls.
She then insisted that she needed a break, and went outside as she admitted: "The fact he just lied to me over and over again.
"And as hard as it was for me to tell him certain things, I still told him things.
"I never, ever lied to him."
Returning back into the house after taking a breather outside, Kaitlin admitted she wasn't sure if she could trust her boyfriend again.
"I understand if you can never trust me the same again," Cam said.
"It's just… so f***ed up that I did this. I'm truly sorry."
"It's literally just words to me now, Like, it's just words because all the lies," she replied.
The hosts then asked how Kaitlin wanted to proceed, to which she said she wanted to have some time alone.
As they walked Cam out to a waiting car, he sighed: "She deserved the truth.
"It wasn't fair to her for me to wait this long. But I'm glad she heard the truth."
