I was fed up shelling out on manis so found a way to do it for £1 – they last two weeks, thanks to my six-step routine
Including the special nail glue she swears by
GETTING your nails done every few weeks is like a well-deserved mini pamper session.
But with costs skyrocketing all across the world, one thrifty beauty lover has revealed how she’s ditched the nail shop to do her mani at home for just a quid.
Fashionista Olivia Harper took to TikTok to share her six-step routine that ensures her cheap press-on nails last two weeks – and it’s so easy, anyone can do it.
According to the blonde beauty, who regularly shares lifestyle content on , the mega retailer Primark sells the manicure must-have for as little as £1.
As the average visit to the nail salon usually sets you back around £30 to £40 depending on the design, press-on nails could really be the answer to saving a fortune in the long run.
But how to make sure the nails don’t come flying off just a day or two later?
As explained by the stunner. prep is key and you should follow the exact same steps as a nail shop pro would.
Demonstrating the process in posted on the social media platform, Olivia said: ”Proper prep is the secret to long-lasting press-ons – you need to prep like a salon would.
”Push back your cuticles, gently buff your nail, dehydrate using acetone or a dehydrator.”
The nail prep dehydrator removes all dirt and oil from the surface of your nails at a molecular level, helping to prevent chipping and lifting.
Even soap left on your nails after washing your hands can interfere with the look of your gel coating, making a dehydrator the best way to ensure a clean sweep.
Shoppers can snap up the at-home manicure essential from Amazon or pop down to the local Boots where it sells for around £8.
Once you’re done with the prep, it’s time to apply a nail glue to help the press-ons stick – and although there are plenty of picks on the high street, Olivia had a certain favourite.
”I use the Makartt nail glue – it cements your nails on.”
When applying the nails on, the beauty lover instructed to do so at a 45 degree angle ”just under the cuticle” before it’s time to ”press and hold”.
What age can you take kid to get their nails done?
MUMS have sparked controversy after allowing their kids to get acrylic nails. But just how old do they have to be to be allowed to get them done legally.
According to the National Occupational Standards, anyone under the age of 16 has to be accompanied by an adult.
They also need written consent from a parents or guardian.
It’s also a good idea to check that the salon you’re planning to go to – just to ask if they offer services to children.
”These are not going anywhere, you’re welcome.”
She went on in the comments: ”Keep practicing, it can take some time to get it right.”
