A simple cleaning hack can make your radiator more efficient

And carrying out one overlooked task could even help to reduce your energy bills.

Cleaning expert Manish Jain, founder of , has revealed that using a sock on your radiator can make it heat your home more effectively.

He said: “Radiators become a breeding ground for dust which can make your heating less efficient.

“To combat this, put a sock over a wooden spoon or ruler, dip it in warm soapy water and run it between the radiator panels.

“The sock traps hidden dust and you could even add a few drops of essential oil to result in a fresh-smelling home the next time your heating is on.”

But he also warns people to ensure the radiator is turned off and completely cool before cleaning to avoid burns.

It’s not the only simple cleaning hack that Manish has offered up.

And his tips use items you’ll probably have in your home and they guarantee results in just a few minutes.

The tumble dryer trick

Dust appears out of nowhere and can even make an appearance minutes after wiping your household surfaces.

But there’s a simple solution: a tumble dryer sheet.

Manish says: “Simply wipe your surfaces with the sheet and you’ll repel dust and leave a fresh scent.

“It works because the sheets have anti-static properties which prevent dust from sticking.

“So not only does it mean you’ll have to clean less but you don’t need to worry about damaging furniture with polish or sprays.”

Before trying this hack, always test on a small, hidden area first to ensure the dryer sheet doesn’t leave any residue on delicate surfaces.

The viral ketchup trend

it turns out that tomato ketchup isn’t just a yummy condiment for meals.

A small amount of ketchup on a clean cloth can be rubbed into dull and limescale-covered taps to leave them sparkling.

Manish says: “The trick is to let the ketchup sit for a few minutes before wiping it off so the acid in it can break down any grime.

“But after this time, your taps will look new. Plus, it even works on copper pans and pots.”

You should, however, avoid using this hack on marble or porous surfaces, as the acidity in ketchup may cause discolouration.

The tea bag solution

Next time you make a cuppa, keep the black tea bag to the side.

Allow it to cool and then use the liquid to wipe down any glass and mirrored surfaces with a microfibre cloth.

Manish explains: “Tea contains tannins that break down grease and smudges so you can wave goodbye to expensive glass cleaners and enjoy a much cheaper shine!

“For best results, wipe down your windows when they get foggy to prevent a build-up of condensation. This will make cleaning them easier in the future.”

The rubber glove hack

Are you constantly noticing pet fur and human hair covering your sofas and rugs?

Simply rub a damp rubber glove over the affected area to collect the fur and hair in seconds, advises Manish.

He adds: “It works effectively on car seats too as the static from the gloves pick up fur and hair – even better than most hoovers.”

And if you have latex allergies, opt for nitrile gloves as an alternative.
