SCROLLING through the comments on her wedding photos, Lauren Kaye smiles at the sea of compliments she's received about her fairy tale dress and show-stopping venue.

But one message captures her attention.

She briefly pauses on one comment from a stranger reading, “So sweet that you asked your son to walk you down the aisle, but shouldn’t he be in school?”

“Happy for you and your little boy,” writes another.

Baffled, Lauren, 31, dismisses the comment as well-meaning if a little ignorant, only as the day goes on the messages she receives on her Instagram account get increasingly sinister.

“Never did I expect to be called a paedophile and a nonce on my wedding day,” Lauren says.

“People actually thought I was somehow marrying my 10-year-old son, it’s absolute madness.”

Of course social media promoter Lauren has not married her own son, nor has she wedded a minor but rather the 29-year-old love of her life, Hannah Kaye.

The pair are constantly scrutinised by strangers because, despite engineer Hannah being just three years younger than Lauren, she's often mistaken for a ten-year-old schoolboy.

And it isn’t just their wedding photos that have caused controversy, with Lauren admitting they have to deal with stares and comments from strangers daily.

Speaking as part of Life Stories, Fabulous’ series that sees ordinary people share their extraordinary lives, she says: “I take it with a pinch of salt, I ignore it.

“I am a very calm person and the comments online don't bother me.

I left my fiance seconds into our wedding, I was ready for happily ever after, but it ended with 5 words at 6am

“It bothers me more when we go to a supermarket and people will look over Hannah and try to talk directly to me because they assume I’m the ‘mum’.”

Lauren is well-seasoned when it comes to trolls having been sharing her life online for years when she shared her amazing 15st weight loss after having a gastric sleeve fitted.

But for Hannah, dealing with abuse from keyboard warriors will take some getting used to.

“I’ve seen messages from people who don’t know us telling Lauren to kill herself,” Hannah says.

“I might only be 60kg but if I ever met those people in real life I would give them hell.

“It’s easy to ignore online comments if you don’t look at your phone, but we’ve already had about 30 comments today telling me to go back to school.”

While Hannah, who lives in Kingston, Surrey, with her wife, has managed to avoid online scrutiny for most of her life, she says that hasn’t stopped confusion and cruel comments in her everyday life.

“I constantly have people confuse me for a little boy,” she admits.

“If we get deliveries that include age-limited items to the door, I have to get my ID ready.

“Even going to see an age-restricted film at the cinema I will have to keep some sort of ID with me.

“It doesn’t matter that I have just driven there and they have seen me get out of the car, they just won’t believe me.

“It’s enough to put me off going to the shops full-stop.";

She added: “It does bother me being compared to a child when I’m with Lauren because of course that would make our relationship entirely inappropriate.

“Though I would always take being called a child over being called a paedophile.”

Hannah says that critics often ask her why she simply doesn’t change her style in a bid to rid herself of the trolls.

“A lot of people say I do it myself because it's the way I dress and so on and so forth,” Hannah says.

“But it's 2025, having a butch partner is a well known thing and isn’t something that I should have to hide, it’s who I am and it isn’t impacting anyone.

“People either need to learn to adjust to it or keep their mouth shut.”

Lauren certainly has no complaints, admitting that she was immediately drawn to Hannah when they met on Tinder two years ago.

People tell us that we’re being cruel to our children and that they ‘deserve a dad'

“I was really attracted to her, even though she did look young,” Lauren says.

“I actually met Hannah while I was in a women’s refuge as I had escaped a violent relationship and it was her heart more than anything that won me over.”

Hannah proposed in January 2024 and the couple went on to marry seven months later at a registry office in Surrey.

“It was a really intimate day, it was perfect and just what we wanted,” Hannah says.

The couple are now bracing themselves for further adversity as they are now expecting triplets together.

In September 202,4 Hannah and Lauren flew to Northern Cyprus for the first round of IVF.

Lauren is already a mum to a son, 11, and a nine-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, which ruled them out of having NHS treatment in the UK.

The wives spent £9k on reciprocal IVF, a fertility treatment option available for same-sex female couples and also sometimes referred to as shared motherhood.

It involves taking the eggs from one woman, fertilising them with a donor sperm, before implanting the embryos in the womb of another.

The couple chose a Swedish sperm donor as he was the closest match to the couple's skin tone and looks.

I was severely bullied over my mum’s sexuality, and I think that stunted my ability to come out myself

Whilst Hannah underwent a stimulation cycle to help her body produce the maximum number of eggs for harvesting, Lauren underwent womb stimulation to prepare her body for pregnancy.

Three days after the implantation in September, Lauren felt unwell and took a pregnancy test.

Two weeks later a blood test confirmed Lauren was expecting - and a scan revealed she was pregnant with not just one baby, but three.

“It was such a relief,” says Hannah.

“I was so fearful that I wasn't going to have the opportunity to have children.

“I was so petrified that financially we'd have to go through it again and mentally we'd have to experience it more than once and it was really gruelling.”

Lauren is now five months pregnant, and is looking forward to being a mum again having recently discovered they are expecting three girls who are due in June.

HOW TO REPORT SOCIAL MEDIA TROLLS

X, formerly known as Twitter, is one of the most common platforms for social media trolling, so the bosses have come up with lots of ways to combat the keyboard warriors.

The social media site is fighting back against trolls with:

  • A 'mute' feature which allows users to block notifications based on certain keywords and phrases
  • By allowing users to collect multiple tweets, and therefore multiple users, in a single complaint report called a 'moment'
  • You can also report an entire profile, if it has been set up purely to spam or post harmful content

On Facebook, you can report abusive photos and posts by clicking the arrow in the top right hand corner, and then 'report post'.

On Instagram you can click on the elipses on the top right hand corner of the post to report a post, the same elipses can be found next to invidual comments.

The method can be used on TikTok to report both videos and comments.

“I missed out on a lot of things with my first two due to struggles with my mental health” Lauren says.

“I missed their first day of school, putting them to bed at night, giving them that goodnight kiss because of how poorly I was.

“I can't wait to do it again. Be with a supportive partner on my side to become a parent with.”

While the couple can’t wait to meet their three daughters, they admit they are already receiving negative comments from their haters.

“We have had negative comments online about being pregnant,” Lauren says.

At the end of the day I have found my happily ever after and there is nothing anyone can say to pull that apart

Lauren Kaye

“People tell us that we’re being cruel to our children and that they ‘deserve a dad’.

“It can be tough because I struggled so much with my own sexuality.

“My dad died in a plane crash in 1999 and when my mum remarried it was with a woman.

“I was severely bullied over my mum’s sexuality, and I think that stunted my ability to come out myself because I was so aware of the judgement that could and would come my way.

“But I have come so far and learned to look past our haters, I’m so proud of our little family.”

It isn’t all negative, with Lauren admitting she has been blown away by the support that she and Hannah receive from total strangers.

“I can be having such a bad day and someone will reach out to me and show me that they care,” she says.

“When a stranger reaches out and says, ‘I'm there for you’ it can really pull you through a dark time.

“At the end of the day I have found my happily ever after and there is nothing anyone can say to pull that apart.”
